Am I asking too much from the drummer?

Yep. Asking too much. I was in a band and we had this particular singer who always asked for a ride. It got old quick. Plus she was nuts (Literally. Thinks Michael Jackson is still alive and stalking her). I actually quit until I found out she was no longer in the band so I rejoined. Bottom line....have your own gear and transportation please. I'm not close enough to my band-mates to be around them outside of playing.

I carpool often. No problem. Saves costs, and sometimes it's actually very handy, like that time my car's thermostat casing cracked while on the road, spilling coolant, and I had to stop there and then. It was very good to have company while arranging to get us to the gig and back.
What I don't want is to commit for eternity. I will drive others soemtimes, but I will not be the designated driver forever. Each time gets negotiated. As long as nothing/nobody gets taken for granted it's all good.

I would agree but sometimes it aint that way... especially at first.

I have been in plenty of bands where I had the only truck and that put me at the mercy of the other musicians. Even if I was on time, they would make me late because they were never ready. But in every other band, even if I was no longer in the band, if asked, I would help a band member out if they needed it

Yeah, ridiculous. Only saving grace was he was a fillin and did only maybe 20% of the gigs. The bar didn’t seem to mind as we were weekend house band.

Windshield time is my only “alone time” I get nowadays. Besides, you might become great friends but then have to fire them....
