It was created to sound like a SR on steroids and many players like them for that particular tone. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean someone should avoid it based on their word of mouth reputation 
If it sounds good and you think it fits the overall sound of your band, then by all means go for it And if the name on the headstock is that much of a bother, just cover the logo with duct tape and tell ppl it's an odd looking Fender
