Am I reading this right?

I play this Invalid Link Removed (exercise 1)

4 O 2 4-- O 2 4 O--2 4 O 2--4 O 2 4

O being open, 2&4 being the 2nd and 4th frets.

Sorry I was half asleep posting that. Basically am I playing this right? The tabs say I'm not but I thought thats how the transcription was supposed to read. Coming from playing double bass I thought I was right.

I don't understand what you're trying to say, either, none of the exercises on that page look like the tab you tried to replicate in your post. :hmm:

It looks like he's using open strings instead of the fifth fret in the first two bars...

Code:
 4 0 2 4 0 2 4 0 2 4 0 2 4 0 2 4

---------------0-|-----0-2---0-2-4---------
---0-2-3-0-2-3---|-2-3-----3---------------
-3---------------|-------------------------
-----------------|-------------------------

I would have thought this would be better, but what do I know?

Code:
 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 1 4

---------------0-|-----0-2---0-2-4---------
---0-2-3-0-2-3---|-2-3-----3---------------
-3---------------|-------------------------
-----------------|-------------------------

You'd probably be better off posting this in the double bass forums rather than here in the bass guitar forums.

Are you asking about left hand fingering?

Double bass left hand technique is determined, by the large distance between notes, playing near the nut.

But I'm still not sure what the question is?

You don't use your 3rd finger near the nut, in DB playing - bad technique, could cause injury etc. :hmm:

3rd finger supports 4th.

Did somebody say you should use the third finger?

I think this is what the thread is about...

The original poster is familiar with DB, but is asking about BG. He is confused as to how to finger exercise 1 in the link he gave on his BG (because it doesn't appear to agree with how he's been taught to play on his DB).

I would play that execise in position I as I would play a c major scale shifting to position II for the C an octave above. i.e. start with the second finger for the C i.e.

2 0 1 2 0 1 2 0 ... etc (the numbers refer to fingerings not frets and I think this may indeed be what you are referring to).

There's more than one way to play this and what works for you is right for you.
