Am I The Only One Uncomfortable With These Ads?

Good sites have ads, that's a given. I have no problem with looking at ads on a good site, because it means that I don't have to pay to use this great site, but I'm not sure I like seeing this ad all day while perusing the Luthier's Corner.

I'll leave my the specifics of my personal beliefs out, but I'm the last person to be offended by nudity from either sex, but anyone with eyes and a brain can see the difference between nudity, and sexuality. I don't know if I would go as far as to say it "offends" me, but it does make me uncomfortable to have to see something like this on every site I go to these days. Sex only sells sex, and that's all I'm seeing here. And this isn't the only one I've seen, the "Snorg" ads (I believe that's the spelling) has somewhat racy adverts too, but their products are cute, at the very least.

My little sister comes to this site often, and while I wouldn't be daft enough to go as far as to say "You should take it down, blah blah blah-", I don't much like it, and I just thought I would throw my opinion out there. You can all get back to your lives now, thanks for reading. :)

Unfortunately, the admins have little, if any, control over ad content. Google decides what we should see (Google's getting a bit creepy these days) and if talkbass switched to another ad service, they'd probably show similar stuff.

Funny Colbert joke: To learn more about sex, google pretty much anything.

I know it seems odd to me when adds like this are on a forum they have no semblence of commonality with, but as old fashioned as I am, I can't say it bothers me. I rarely pay attention to the adverts as they are directed toward th more trendy and juvenile that dominate sites like this. It's a quandry for me, but not really bothersome considering what I see in many other places, also I do not have a younger sibling, or child to consider.

+1 the absence of ads is refreshing!

I have adblock, but I keep it off for talkbass because I don't have the money to support the site by a donation, and from what I've been told (which may very well be wrong) some sites get their pay by how many ad views they get, not just for putting the ads up on their site, so I'm happy to look at 99% of the ads they put up if it means helping the site keep running.

Again, TB has little control over this stuff guys. If you want to get angry at somebody, get angry at google ads. As far as I know though, google ads only shows you ads that reflect your interests from what they've gathered, so... :eyebrow:

Exactly, and TB is very well optimized for search-engine robots to scan, so if you start a thread and mention a popular subject a couple times in it, odds are quite high that you will see ads targeted to that subject in that thread within a day. IOW, there is either some text in the thread you're viewing with the ads that suggested "busty model in t-shirt" to the ad bots, or there is something in your individual browsing history that suggested it. Seriously! Deny it all you want--the ads are not chosen randomly. If it's not you, then it's something in the thread.

Oh it's even more treacherous than that! Browse around other websites and similar ads to the items you were looking at will pop up on talkbass ads.
