I would like the ad more if she was repulsively fat, ratty hair, trailing a half dozen screaming children and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth... then it would be more lifelike and appeal to my upstate NY sensibilities....

1) I am sure that how much an advertiser is willing to pay also factors into the formula that determines which ads to show.

3) The fashion advertisers are always the ones pushing the envelope.

this. i seriously doubt Bongo thinks you guys are perverts, he's just saying it could easily be there 'cause you've googled "shirt" and "woman" at some point. it's simply because Google wants money,and ads like this somehow get them money. i don't buy shirts based on girls not buttoning theirs, but whatever...

Agree with the OP, I think this one does cross the line and it's not even effective. So much so, the 'delivery' outshines the product- I have no idea what they are trying to get me to buy. In advertising, that's a major FAIL.

I explained it before, nudity is not what offends me, it's the obvious sexuality of the picture. It has nothing to do with the site, and it's not something I wish to see on such a site. Sexuality is something that is almost always private; seeing a family member unclothed doesn't bother me, but if I were to see said family members in the bedroom, that would most likely make all of us uncomfortable.

imho there are racier things on network TV, any women's magazine, or performances at the Grammys...do they also offend you? I have never noticed that ad come up until you posted it...and I Google boobs all the time! Come to think of it I almost never notice any ads here....except that new Tone Hammer 350 one....mmmm

now maybe if she was holding a shake-weight we would be getting somewhere....

Honestly, this is not the place for me to talk about my disdain for television, radio, and magazine advertising. I would fill up a few pages with my own posts alone. I'm only bringing this up here because it is what I see all day here. If this were to be moved to the Off-Topic section by one of the many nice mods here, I would feel better about saying what I feel about advertising in general.

And btw, AdBlock users are freeloaders. Websites like talkbass (and many others) are supported primarily by advertising. By using AdBlock, you are depriving the people behind these sites of funds required to remain in operation. I work for a website that is 100% supported by advertising, and I can tell you that ad blocking is definitely a problem.

So by extension if you don't click on an ad, you are also not supporting the advertiser - right?

What's the difference with AB+ and not clicking through?

+1 on AdBlock. I finally used it to block the girl with the boobs sticking out. She was too hot and distracting for me...

I have adblock, like a lot of folks here. Seeing as how it says 'supporting member' next to my name, I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I only feel bad about missing out on boobies.

For the Adblock users out there, make sure you ad the the 'Antisocial' list to your subscriptions. It makes all the Facebook 'like' buttons go away. Magic! Link Removed

I am also puzzled by the Google search algorithms, especially the ones where a little block of 3 link based ads appears under the menu bar. Recently I was browsing TB and these ads were, in order.

One for Autochair - not a surprise since my wife is disabled and these guys make hoists to get disabled folks in and out of cars. I browsed their website once and this ad now follows me everywhere.

The next was offering me colonic irrigation 'from just £50". I've never had the slightest interest in this and have never searched or browsed anything to do with it.

The final one was advertising a "Vacuum Chimney Sweep - starting at £45 pounds". Again, all of our heating is gas fired, I haven't hired a chimney sweep for over 30 years, long before Google existed, and would have no rhyme or reason to be looking for one now.

Anyway, these Ads are counterproductive. If I was ever interested in having a colonic I'd now call in the Vaccum Chimney Sweeps to do it because they're £5 cheaper
