Actually, i think you'll find they're trees covered in snow. This shot below was at Big White in Canada in 1998 or so. Further up the mountain there were all manner of shorter shapes like those above.
The cyclist in front, that's the one who took the picture, realized he didn't have to be faster than the bear, just faster than that guy.
#1 was taken by a friend thru their latest apartment's window, and except for the last 3, all middle images were snapped by me

Cell tower after Hurricane Michael:
The amazing part of this picture to me is that the waterfall to the left of the old mill appears to be a spring spurting from the rock face.
That's where I proposed to my wife!
