The stark beauty of Rubicon Reservoir. I've hiked all over these mountains. I spent 2 weeks in 1983 hiking and camping in these mountains with my best friend Marc. We went from Browns Mountain to Loon Lake, Spider lake, Buck Island Rubicon Reservoir and China Flats. It was an amazing 2 weeks. These days Desolation Valley has been taken over by 4 wheelers wanting to go up the big sluice and little sluice. It's not as nice as it once was, but I understand about the 4 wheeling. I enjoy that myself.

A little background story for this pic. Astronaut Dale A. Gardner holds up a "For Sale" sign as a joke, pretending to offer up two failed satellites, Palapa B-2 and Westar 6, which were retrieved in space during the shuttle Discovery's STS-51A mission in 1984. Astronaut Joseph P. Allen IV can be seen reflected in Gardner's helmet visor.
