Hello Bass brothers and sisters if anybody happens to be considering selling a GGi5 I am seeking to get one. There is a white fretless with SST pickup config at the Englewood, CO guitar center that I got to play recently and it was right at home for me but alas am not a fretless player. This after snoozing on the bunch selling on reverb a few months back... I wish I would have gone with a GGi5 then. If interested in partial or complete trade I have a Universal Audio 710 solo Twin-Finity Preamp that is not going to get used and a Brubaker KXB5 from 2010 #23. Looking forward to joining this club!
Apologies in advance if this is not how its done anymore. I am back after a 8 year hiatus focusing on being a Dad and found out that even typos are now permanent with no edits.

I am probably going to let my 2012 GGi5 go. It is a fantastic bass that I just do not play. Insane birdseye maple board. Quilt maple top with a padauk layer under it that is stunning. The picture shows Nordstrands in it, but I have since put the EMG's back into it. This bass is 100% rare and stunning.

GC near me has a used fretless 5 string for sale. I went to look at it today. Neck has a lot of relief. 3/8 inch at 12th fret. I asked the tech to adjust it. He tried but said it would only move slightly.
What would be normal when they leave the shop.

i have the spacing on my fretted ones at 3mm between the top of the 12th fret and the bottom of the 'b' string. ouch, sounds like the one at g.c. is over 9mm. and no travel on the truss rod?

were the bridge saddles bottomed out?

sounds like it needs to take a trip to mr. dorsch for some tlc.

I was just there... there's only one in the chain. assuming we are talking about the white fretless in Englewood... They said they had it worked on after noticing a slight warping... Action was fantastic and low for me just last Saturday.

Ok, so I’ve been absent for a few months (work ********, that has resolved with me triumphant). Anyone who wants a member number, I’ll review the past couple pages and be in touch.
I just wanted to check in with a major milestone - currently on reverb there are 29 modulus basses for sale. All are preowned and most are in pretty good condition. There are some gems in the list. At the same time, there are 28 Gould basses for sale. Pretty cool that the two manufacturers are kind of on par (first time I’ve seen this).

The difference is that at least 20 of the Goulds are brand new.

The point I’m making is that, although modulus is still a wonderful company (particularly if you want hollow or tbx bodies) — nobody lets go of their Goulds.

Hello, I purchased GGi5 #1155 from Bubba-B and I am very happy to join the club. Alder Body, Birdseye maple fb, 9v preamp. These are the pics I have for now from the sale, more once I make it my own. I have plans for Norstrand Zen blades and likely 2band pre. I have a week before rehearsal to hear it in the mix.

After playing the SST configuration at GC I may have to give G. Gould a call to start the process for an order of my own. I love the maple on composite mix. I still want an all composite neck with FB, Ash body (no top) with grain enhancement and a translucent finish. Money's already gone... the G.A.S. done got me. Forealtho gigging in Colorado has a lot of reasons for seeking a stiff neck. My Lakland Skyline is great for the bars but I am seeking my 300 plus audience bass and it must be USA for me. I love my Nordy but not being replaceable has retired it. I also play a 93-4 Stingray 5 with Birdseye maple neck and board but a stable bass that doesn't happen to fit the band I am in. That MM sweetspot inspired my love of the tone and added flexibility of the twin pickup SST turbo. I am in fact the "bigman" of the Bigman pickup created (all designs being Carey Nordstrand) at Nordstrand when I worked there over a decade ago. That said the Blue GGi5 SST hybrid that Bubba - B with the Zen blades makes me want to try that configuration. I like what G. Gould has designed and it's easy enough to get EMG shaped pickups.

I’m not an EMG guy, but my G.GI5 is my go-to bass for every gig and nothing I’ve tried sounds better (or more versatile) than a big old hunk of graphite and those active EMGs.

I’m not an EMG guy, but my G.GI5 is my go-to bass for every gig and nothing I’ve tried sounds better (or more versatile) than a big old hunk of graphite and those active EMGs.

I don't usually like EMG's either but both my ggi5 and ggi6 have the EMG pickups Geoff installs but I did install the EMG 3 band preamp in my basses. I like having a mid control and both basses sound extremely good. The necks are very stable too. I adjusted the neck on the ggi6 one time and it has never moved. The ggi5 came to me with the truss rod perfectly adjusted and I have never needed to adjust it either.

HAPA, I suggest you play the bass with the factory electronics and then decide if you need to start changing things. You may very well find the EMG pickups/preamp that Geoff installs in his basses sounds great to you too.

I have still yet to play out with the bass, but will be keeping the EMG's for a while. More than anything I like having an active/passive switch JIC the batteries go out. It is true that the Graphite and EMG combination is a winner. Every Modulus Q5 I ever heard had them, Lane poor in some of the Flea basses iirc.

Without being able to make a sweeping statement, no, not everyone prefers the EMGs in their Moddy's or Goulds. I have several friends in my town who prefer the Lane Poor's or Barts hands down over EMGs. Me, EMG for sure. But my more vintage Modulus basses all have Barts. So it varies widely depending on the players (as you know)
