G. Gould Club!

I just got my hands on a 90s Alvarez Villain guitar with a licensed Modulus neck. @GeoffGould, do you know if these were designed/manufactured by you and or modulus? I’ve heard they were made in house but also that they were purely a work of South Korea and would love some info.

Thanks
It was only a marketing arrangement. It was made in Korea in a very different method. Very different structure. That doesn't make it bad, it's just not the same.

I appreciate the info on it. The profile reminds me a lot of a 98 Quantum I had but it feels like a Moses neck.

I’m trying to find one of those Tokai “Carbo” necks to try out too.

Gotta catch em all I guess

Contact Geoff and I am sure he can work that out... He is pretty open to custom orders like this
Knowing Geoff's previous responses about pickups and whatnot, I'm fairly certain that shouldn't be a problem unless there is something physically restricting where the pickups can go.

Also, as a GGI5 SST owner you might consider the three band EQ with the mid sweep. I've always had a good relationship with the two band EMG preamp in two of my other Gould basses, but installing the mid control really, really helped on the SST. There are a lot of tones to be found blending between the two pickups and the mid really brought it all together and made the bass way more usuable for me.

I think simple 2 band EQ would work just fine cuz I always tune my bass 1 step down(ADGCFBb). Its overall tension gets loose and all of the sweet spots move to the bridge, so I guess its balance would still be on point even using sst setup. Because of my setup I wanted to try Warwick thumb 6 string broadneck version that was sold in my local music store before, I tried testing it with a strap and gave up right away. I just couldnt stand that crazy neck dive and terrible ergonomics. I think sst would do much better than that broadneck Thumb sixer in terms of the ergonomics, and tbh tone(I love graphite neck's tone).

Well as near as I can tell, it is getting very near to my basses 10th birthday. Sometime approx May 2016.. She arrived to me in October 2016 and has been played a great deal. The body number is 16571. Still love to get her out for a run around. Most days I pull out my 2024, but I really like going back to this one

GC near me has a used fretless 5 string for sale. I went to look at it today. Neck has a lot of relief. 3/8 inch at 12th fret. I asked the tech to adjust it. He tried but said it would only move slightly.
What would be normal when they leave the shop.
i have the spacing on my fretted ones at 3mm between the top of the 12th fret and the bottom of the 'b' string. ouch, sounds like the one at g.c. is over 9mm. and no travel on the truss rod?

were the bridge saddles bottomed out?

sounds like it needs to take a trip to mr. dorsch for some tlc.

Hello Bass brothers and sisters if anybody happens to be considering selling a GGi5 I am seeking to get one. There is a white fretless with SST pickup config at the Englewood, CO guitar center that I got to play recently and it was right at home for me but alas am not a fretless player. This after snoozing on the bunch selling on reverb a few months back... I wish I would have gone with a GGi5 then. If interested in partial or complete trade I have a Universal Audio 710 solo Twin-Finity Preamp that is not going to get used and a Brubaker KXB5 from 2010 #23. Looking forward to joining this club! :)
Apologies in advance if this is not how its done anymore. I am back after a 8 year hiatus focusing on being a Dad and found out that even typos are now permanent with no edits.
