That whole region in past times, especially when it was Persia, was a great empire and Baghdad was a major cultural and financial center.
Yes indeed. There’s a whole series called the Great Courses the we recently checked out from the Sac library. One of them was on the Beginnings of Western Civilization. It really filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge of that period. So much was going on in that region at the time. Sorry, I’m digressing, but if you’re into history, it’s a good series to view.And as I understand it, Iraq was once Babylonia.
