Even in the places most altered by humans, nature seems to slip through, like the Milky Way shown here peeking between light beams from Germany's Westerheversand Lighthouse. This beacon lies along the Wadden Sea, which forms the world's largest tidal flat along the Dutch, German, and Danish coasts.

Did you see the recent PBS documentary on the new research on the bluestones? They nailed the location of the exact two outcrops in western Wales where they were quarried, and found a nearby location where the stones were originally set up. Later they were moved to Stonehenge.

Hey, I know it’s the Irish in me, but I can’t let a Stonehenge thing go by without bringing up New Grange.
