I loved the time we spent in Thailand.

3 weeks, 16? 17? yrs ago…

I daydream about going back up the River Kwai to the Floatel.

I too daydream about going back. I lived there as a wee lad fro 1965-7. It was just a bit different back then.

The place had a hug impact on me. I fully remember most everything, including our trip to the famous bridge, cemetery etc.

I didn’t know where else to put this.

Of course it’s Australia

Of course it is.
I've been living in New Zealand for four years now and I still get surprised at how much more relaxed I am around creepy-crawlies and other animals over here. About the only thing we come across here that hurt are European Wasps.
Walk around in a paddock in flip-flops..... no snakes, no problem.
Get rid of spiders web with my hands..... easy... there's only a couple of mildly poisonous spiders that are pretty rare.
These are just two of the things I'd never do in Australia.

Even just driving at night I'm more relaxed knowing that there's no chance of a kamikaze kangaroo jumping in front of the car.

(Not my photo/story, but thought it's worth sharing)

"Not my machine (thankfully). I was at the machine right behind it. 10" diameter x 14" solid steel bar slipped out of the tail stock (bad bearings) at 2200rpms. The set-up guy was leaning on the glass roping in his tools when it happened. He's OK aside from a goose egg, some glass in his arm and a tightened sphincter muscle. Those bars behind the glass saved his life. Double check your steps!"
