Amazing Slow Downer issues.... What else is out there?

OK, this will be sort of an open-ended question loosely based around Amazing Slow Downer.

I use a Google Play subscription for learning music. I can stream songs on PC and download them on my phone for listening while I work.

I'm not married to either Amazing Slow Downer or Google Play.

What I want to be able to do is slow down tracks for learning in different keys without detuning my bass. I can transpose pretty well, but some songs I can perform better with "muscle memory" in the key I'll be performing in.

Right now, I can't figure out a way to import files I have downloaded on my Galaxy S8 into Amazing Slow Downer.

However, and even better solution for me would be to be able to download files onto my computer OR my phone and then dump them when I'm done with them without having to buy individual tracks. The reason being I probably wouldn't want to store hundreds of tracks I will never listen to again once I'm done learning them. So I can dump both Google Play AND Amazing Slow Downer if there is a better solution using a SUBSCRIPTION based music app where I can pay a flat fee per month and download, and then dump, any songs I want.

I need to be able to download the songs, import them into whatever slower downer thingy you suggest, and then dump them when I am done.

I don't mind paying for a subscription music service or the app for both PC and/or my phone. I would prefer not to buy individual tracks as I tend to do fill-in gigs a lot and don't want to own/store a bunch of music I'll likely never use again.

It appears Spotify will link directly to Amazing Slow Downer. Is it as simple as changing my music subscription?

My primary phone is a Galaxy S8 but I have an Apple iPhone 6 as well. My operating system is Windows 10 on my PC.

What say you?

If I email an MP3 to myself I can open it with ASD on my iPhone. I assume it'll be the same on android.

You could set up a dedicated gmail account and save 20GB of data there. Easy to search for previous songs, it's free, and future devices will always have access. It's a free 'Cloud' service that works across all platforms.

iTunes playlist on laptop, sync laptop to phone, import song in ASD. Backup playlists to External Hard drive for later, then delete from phone/laptop as required.

Problem with subscription music is you lose your songs/playlists if you change subscription companies. Been there/done that with Accounting software and Photobucket. Massive PITA.

ASD seems to be the most popular here on TB. Anytune, Audacity, and Transcribe are other popular "loop and slow down" programs. Which one is best seems to depend on your criteria. The real issue for the OP seems to be finding a source for disposable MP3 files.

I buy lots of music, but I occasionally need a song only for transcription purposes. I've had bad luck with youtube to MP3 web sites because of malware. I've switched to using my Zoom H-4 digital recorder to record the Youtube audio. Then I use Audacity to create the MP3 file. You can buy a decent digital recorder on eBay for $75, and it has lots of other uses, like recording rehearsals and performances.

Thanks for the tips so far. I'm sure it's one of those learning curve things. Once I pick a system and get used to it then I'll be able to do it seamlessly. Right now it's annoying. For some reason the phone was easy. A computer, not so much.

I swear someone mentioned being able to simply slow down playback right from youtube, on some options/settings panel. I have not followed that up as it's not something I do much of.

That's a neat trick. But I don't think you can lower or raise songs by half steps using that process. The Amazing Slow Downer does do that.... which is really nice.

Don't know if this is relevant but Fender is making RiffStation Pro free for now.
From Fender:
While we work with labels and publishers on a paid Riffstation service, Riffstation will no longer be available on the web or mobile devices.

We hope to bring a similar service back in the future, but in the meantime, we’d like to offer you a Invalid Link Removed (normally $34.99), on us.

Riffstation Pro is an amazing tool for beginners and advanced guitar players and will help unlock your potential as a guitarist.

Heck, for that price it's worth checking out. :D

That would be me - Groot Bueller.
EDIT

I have posted on this topic of slowdown like 4 times for transcribing basslines off of Youtube and most of those threads went boat anchor.

ASD works great with a Spotify premium account. I gladly pay the $10/mo for the Spotify account for the ability to slow down / speed up and EQ most any song via ASD without changing the pitch. For someone who has to learn many covers and originals in a short amount of time without transcriptions this has been essential.

I've gotten them to work together on my phone. Have you been able to use them together on your PC?

Actually, I don't have a PC these days. I have a Mac that I seem to also use less and less. For learning songs I pretty much stick to a Vox Amplug with spotify premium through my phone, headphones and bass.

I have resigned myself to the phone for now. It would be nice to be able to use a mouse on a larger screen though. I usually run my PC to a 42" TV mounted on the wall in my jam room (so I can split the screen and see lyrics from across the room). I use a wireless mouse on a music stand to navigate from 10 feet away.

Yeah, I know. My situation is "weird", but it works. :D

Actually, I mainly do that because I can't sing worth a crap sitting down. I suppose I could run a long cable to the PA from my phone and put the phone on the music stand....

Thanks for this link. After many years and across several PCs I've been using Best Practice. Very recently I had to move on to a new laptop. I could install Best Practice but it will not run on my new PC - Win7 pro, same as my old PC.

I use pitch changing, tempo control and looping in Best Practice, Riffstation seems to provide all the functions I need and then some. The interface seems a bit clunky but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Is this download a 30 day free demo or is this the compete package?
