Hey, friends.
Been reading/enjoying you chat and music this morning. Been a hectic few weeks, but the last show of the tour is tonight in London, then a day off in the country and fly back to the States early Thursday morning. Looking forward to getting back in many ways. Though 4 days before flying to England I discovered I would now be living alone in my house. That will be an adjustment. Time to remodel and rethink some things

Keep it, you will regret it down the line. I got this to replace the meat box I stupidly sold.
IMO this version of the Hulk is hands down the best sub pedal available.
You can use this on all kinds of sources, keys, drums, guitar.....its an awesome tool for studio also.

Also, the sample size is suspect to say the least. It was a single one-hour period with only 62 participants.
Also note that to produce the very low frequencies they used two Meyer VLFCs, which cost about $15,000 each (used!) and were provided for the study so they weren't part of the venue's system. How many venues are shelling out tens of thousands or more just to produce inaudible sound? Not many, I wager.
I think it's significant that they were periodically texting the participants during the concert, necessarily influencing them to some degree.
Not exactly.
"During the 9 segments in which VLFs were ON, the audio had more power (p < .05) compared to the 9 segments of VLF OFF in each of the frequency bands in the 8-37 Hz (inclusive) range." Note that most humans can hear above 20 Hz, so the upper end of the range they used would be audible to most people. 37 Hz is very close to the fundamental of the E string on an electric bass.
"At the lower end of the VLF range (10 Hz), intensities were below the threshold for auditory perception, and higher VLFs were above thresholds." So the audible sound was to some degree louder during the parts when they played the VLFs, and it's well established that people prefer music that sounds louder.
Despite how much it drives me insane that the unwashed TB masses immediately pounce on anyone who suggests unusually low tunings repeating the same things over and over again (the sound engineer will high pass it out, your cabs can't produce those frequencies, the audience won't care, etc), they do have some valid points. Whether it's an electric bass, an electric guitar, a piano, or anything other than a sine wave oscillator, when you play a specific note there are harmonics that also arise. So, when you play your open E string on your bass you're not getting just the 41.2 Hz sine wave of that note. You're also getting a bunch of higher frequencies. Our brains, for reasons I certainly don't know, can take the higher frequencies and kind of fill in the blank of the lower fundamental tone even when it's not actually present or is very low in volume. Kind of like how people can easily read words where one letter is missing or out of order, without having to give any conscious thought to it (not a perfect analogy, but not the worst either).Since you seem scientifically enabled and a Thou fan, I would like to hear your opinion/analysis on the band’s freakin low tunings.
The bass is tuned down so low it’s basically a huge pile of mud by itself but in the mix you definitely hear it supporting the band.
And how about the technical aspects of it, jeez no cab can go that low?
Cab plus PA support? Sometimes they play dive venues, so this can’t be an “all the time” thing.
How do they pull it off, help me out here because this has been spinning in my brain the last year or so.
