Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Hydra is definitely on the radar since it’s been out.
The last one that came out is probably the one that would “fit” me the most.
Unless it has some missing features the bigger flagship models have??
Yet for some intangible reason the desktop seems more “me” since it has more physical buttons n stuff
:)

the keys, desktop and explorer all have the same engine; the deluxe has two of rhoee engines (iirc).

desktop is the smallest, the pads do have polyaftertouch, so the real difference is whether or not you can think harmonically in the layout (i think there are a bunch of different options).

might be worth investigating what people think are rhe pros and cons of each.

@lucas303 has both, no?

Might need to grab Live 11 since it runs native on Mac M1 chips. I grabbed the new Ugritone Verbcore 1989 plug-in ($10 is hard to resist) and it sounds super choppy in most Ableton buffer settings with Live 10. But running it in Logic sounds great with no artifacts. I have to assume Live 10 on my M1 Mac is the likely problem. Ugh. Guess I need to bite the bullet and pay for the download.

Modular nerds. I just got the ThreeTom Steve’s MS-22 filter. So strange and interesting. I think I love it.
Started out by running a simple sine wave through it to see what it sounded like, then I used Just Friends to modulate the two cv inputs. Later, I split the output of the filter to the Arbhar and onto an FX Aid and recorded a pass. There’s no clocking or sequencing involved.

I might appreciate it but should I be watching it?

oxi one arrived today. It’s small but very well built and the case is quite nice. Hapax is up for sale.

Interesting! I have an Oxi One but haven’t spent enough time with it, but what I know about it, I really like

How much?
On my account it’s ridiculously expensive.

edit:
20% off
Question
If I “upgrade” from 9 to 11 do I loose the instruments I have in 9 that aren’t included in 11??

I’m cheap and lazy, probably going to keep using 9 since it’s plenty good enough for me “for now”.
I have some drum sessions to do, we’ll see how that goes.

i recall that it was about the same as buying logic new. $200 or less? guess it might have been a promo.

no idea about the instruments.

11 is probably more for the new generation of m1 machines? that’s what i’d pay attention to.

M1 machines??
Computers I assume, like processors and chips and all that stuff I need help from my tech buddies?

Isn’t programmed obsolescence awesome!!!!??

not clear that it’s planned obsolescence.

perhaps just the long line of “progress.”

i remember the days when it cost a ton to get 40mb in your computer, which would get maxed out pretty quickly, and you had way fewer options.

after inflation, we’re probably doing way better with potential in computers. (and software people always look at the amount of cpu they now have to make their dreams come true—so more memory is needed.)

whether or not that’s helping people make better music? dunno.

The new Mac in house chips. Apple uses them instead of intel chips and the design impacts certain software because of the multi core structure.

I bought a new reverb plug-in that sounds great in logic but not in live 10. That’s my motivation to upgrade to 11.
