I bought a new reverb plug-in that sounds great in logic but not in live 10. That’s my motivation to upgrade to 11.

Are you certain that the upgrade will resolve said issue?
Just read about the new implementations, jeez some are way overkill for me.
I’d just buy the “comp” feature as a standalone buy for my 9 version.
The rest would be superfluous fluff for me atm.

Me + more crap and drowned in features = nothing good ever happens

No. I’ve got a bit of research to do including emailing the software company for their thoughts. That said, if I run the same plug-in with Live and then Logic in a session with the same structure and just one software instrument Logic is noticeably better. I can’t imagine there’s enough of a difference in the DAW processing between the two that it’s something other than Logic being updated for the M1 and Live 10 not.

Some textural stuff for ya. Bass drone at the beginning is a combo of the Empress Zoia and Boss SY-200. The Sy-200 is the basic synth sound, but the Zoia is adding some low pass filtering and subtle evolving. The Zoia also is what is doing the low thuds that come in. That is a momentary aux switch set to engage a Fuzz into a reverb on a parallel path with some heavy limiting. I wanted it to sound like a distant something crashing into something else without a bass-like transient attack. So that whole attack is just stepping on the pedal while holding a note.

Less textural from an effects point, but just technique, another song showing how much I love artificial harmonics. !! Love 'em.

Also, for those of you just that enjoy tech in general, the video was made with the AI art code Midjourney. The images were done in the early generations of that code which is why they are so messed up (which is what we wanted).

that's my guess. Based on my prior experience, there shouldn't be a significant performance difference between a session with the same basic software instrument + plug-in structure in Logic and Live (and even NI Maschine) prior to the m1/Rosetta factor.

Starlifter by Nordy has a solid place on my board. Tuner and XLR outs. Mid bump/flat/scoop setting plus semi para mids. The volume knob is always in play but the EQ can be turned off. Mute too. My biggest annoyance is the in/out order on the back is “reversed” from where many users (including me) want it. If you don’t need distortion or tubes, it is worth a look. Price isn’t budget friendly but it’s not ridiculous.

Was more “window shopping” than anything else.
But if I was going to get something the essential features would be:
- 3 band EQ
- Master Volume
-Some dirt or tube Color
- NOT transparent, I definitely want it to Color my sound.
Something other than my usual Ampeg tone, but more ampeg can’t be a bad thing in my book
- preferably versatile, but not a deal breaker.
- Not too many switches than can screw up everything on a dark stage when the downbeat is in 2 mins
- Xlr out is not required
- front end can be pushed hard with boost pedal without horrible clipping
-Size would depend on features etc, but nothing too big.
-No tubes inside the freakin pedal!!!!

you should check out the microbass 2, it might check some of those boxes. it’s old, so might be cheaper on the used market (they have a 3, now).

it’s eq is sort of similar to the reidmar stuff.

@steubig I picked up Ableton Live 11. Thanks for noting the discount available. It looks like the reverb plug-in still has some issues but it’s definitely improved. Oddly if the buffer is set to 256 or lower the CPU usage goes down but I get artifacts from this reverb plug-in as well as a sample drum from the same vendor. However if I go up to 512 the CPU usage increases but the artifacts go away. I’m not savvy enough to know what’s going on under the hood but overall the performance seems a little better but not perfect.

That particular issue aside, I’m looking forward to exploring some of the new software instruments and seeing how everything comes together with 11. The 20% discount was enough to push me over the edge and grab the biggest upgrade ($187).
