There was a Fairlight CMI at Knobcon! For sale, even (I didn't ask how much.) Weirdly it sounded cheap to me, not even pleasantly retro. (Maybe the fault of the particular sample and settings, but I wasn't about to learn the entire operating system to figure out how to load something else.)
I can do "normal" but according to >50% of the musicians I know & respect, when I do I should stop. Immediately.
Just remember, 50% of everyone you meet are below average.
btw, speaking of Fairlights reminded me of this old story from my sordid past:
Back in the mid-1980s I was selling pro audio retail at a music store in Watertown MA and we had a Invalid Link Removed II in the recording room. One of the guys who worked in the sound reinforcement department used to do a demo of Audio-Technica ATM25a mics that involved throwing them against the wall as hard as he could (to show how their windscreens did not dent, unlike a Shure SM58). For some reason he was in my room with a potential client when he decided to perform this ATM25a trick. Mic bounces off the wall, hits the Fairlight keyboard, and breaks 2 keys.
Repair bill was over $500 as I recall.
A couple months later we wound up selling that Fairlight to Kool & The Gang.

Hey, question for SoundCloud users...hopefully a very simple question, but please be patient and speak to me like I'm a 2-year-old, 'cuz I am:
- Is there any way to rearrange the order that tracks appear on the page, in either your "All" or "Tracks" view?
- Or do you need to create an "Album" or "Playlist" before you can adjust the order of their appearance on a page?

My experience is that tracks are listed in the order they are uploaded. If you pay for a higher tier, you get 5 tracks that you can select that will sit at the top. Playlists are one way to get some control, but those will still be in the order you posted.
It's been a loooong time since I even visited soundcloud. No idea how my account is doing over there. I got so fed up with that site a few years ago and just basically quit going there. I should go and clean out all my tracks but I'll probably have to find my password.
I've been messing around with my new Hydrasynth & Roland boutique JX-08 (I always have to look up the model #), with a bit of DFAM, all mixed through the 1010music Blue Box, and then taking those tracks and editing in Reaper and trying to utilize plug-ins so that I can get experience working ITB. Tonight I realized I should try using the Maneco Grone in this setup, this time just the Grone & Hydrasynth.
Part of me thinks it would make more sense to use the Sirin through Moogerfooger - that's the old-school analog me - but I'm getting more comfortable with the Hydrasynth, so good for me to experiment, even if I'm using it to model an analog synth sound and experience I'm familiar with rather than dig in to other stuff. Actually, the noise in the Grone is a little disappointing, but I need to mess around more - I just used the Clouds settings I used the previous time. Or maybe that's part of the aesthetic?
I still like it as an easy-to-use platform to get music out there.

Already did a search, found a few leads but I thought I would ask the high council.
Anyone here know anything about a Piccolo bass string set for 5 string tuned 8va BEAD......I would probably do CFBbEb , cuz you know thats my signature one of kind tuning.

hypnosis reissue - Dreadbox Synthesizers
Costs half as much as a used original Hypnosis. Patch points that would be handy every once in a while (not regularly). Easy patching with Euro stuff instead of taking up 2 ins and outs on my audio interface.
But... it's mono. That seems like bad news for the chorus/flanger and somewhat bad news for the delay.
On the other hand, $200 is about what I'd end up paying if I just got a Eurorack spring reverb driver and a tank, and this does still have an analog BBD chorus/flanger and digital delay in it. But back to the original hand, what if I bought it and it was just not as exciting as what I demoed last weekend? Grrr...

so an octave a regular 5-string set.
my rule of thumb would be to halve the string on the regular 5. so 58/60, etc.
you could also look at baritone guitar string sets.
i’m in mexico right now, so i don’t have my set information at hand. (but i do prefer lighter gauges. you could try kalium (i think they’re back in biz).
Playing around with lots of reverb on a Mother 32.
You can spec out something like that with Stringjoy. I use them for my weirdo touch guitar sets.
In other news, we now have a Eurorack module with VCV rack inside it, and a no-mixer no-input-mixer.

That no input mixer app seems cool but in the video it sounds nothing like any set up I’ve tried.
I’m no expert but I’ve done the no input thing with about 6 or 7 different mixers and the same patch will sound absolutely nothing like on 2 mixers.
Wonder what mixer the schematics are from or inspired by???

No one cares about the no input mixer thing anyways unless your name is Sarah Bell Reid, even Toshimaru Nakamura can’t get a minuscule percentage of the hits she got on her video

ya know, sarah belle is really good at what she dows and has the chops—both musical and internet. for good or bad, she’s spending a lot of time marketing herself and the youngsters relate. girl’s gotta eat and pay her (i assume) student loans for her doctorate.
Wasn’t a diss towards Mrs Reid at all, she’s got tons of talent and creativity.
I like her multi faceted approach to sound, from her modified trumpet to synths.
She no doubt works very hard both artistically and to promote herself.
Was simply implying that yes, she has a « name » that is more recognizable than many « artists » .
How else could you explain a no input mixer tutorial with 67k views?
Toshimaru Nakamura is imo « the » no input mixer artist and he’s no where near 67k with all his albums combined.

There's some truth to that in any art field. Ansel Adams was a great photographer, to be sure, but what really sets him apart was the network of famous people he knew and his estate's excellent marketing skills. There are a lot of photographers out there whose work you may find more appealing but they are nobodies who work in their home studios and are now drowned out by the digital explosion.
Kind of like how every musician with a laptop and a Soundcloud or Bandcamp account is now a bedroom producer, and a handful of them are pretty good while the rest are meh. (I am firmly in the "meh" camp, but I have a decent day job so whatever.)
