Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

@mrgittleman

Mucho respect if you can get a good workflow on GarageBand....
You get dope as $%^& tones in your clips you share.

On my end I’ll avoid it like the plague.
(Overly dark and twisted pun intended)
You might find this useful.
Multitrack DAWs For iPad

When I do multitrack, I use Auria. It feels like a real DAW. I know Garageband is supposed to be so easy to use, but I found it so unintuitive that I gave up on it pretty quickly.

So, did I mention the Iridium is effing incredible?

Got together with my duo partner a few weeks ago, ended up getting about 3 hours worth of usable multitracked jams. I'd have had it up sooner, but there's so much good stuff, it's taking a while.

The sound design interface on this thing is so easy and intuitive, I'm learning a lot and conceptualizing a lot of stuff a lot easier than I did on the more traditional synths. And I went and made these nice wooden endcaps, too...

Then you probably also don't want me to say, DUUUDE IT IS SO WORTH IT.

Plus, you could probably buy a few for the price of one Fodera. Just sayin'...

And from what I've been hearing, the big 3.0 firmware update is gonna be HUUUGE, in terms of expansion of capabilities.

yes. i know, but somehow i need basses.

and i’m wondering what asm will do next.

i don’t doubt the v3 will be great. as i’ve said, i’m a big fan of the developer, so i expect great things. do you have a link for the v3 rumors?

the timetable for me being able to afford either a “new
asm” or the iridium is probably about a year out.

how are you triggering the iridium?

I don’t use garbageband for editing etc. I record one mono track using Apogee Jam into IPhone all processing etc is pedals. It makes it easy for me to document and photo pedal settings. I just really dug the fight club reference.

You mean another non-Hydra ASM?

Nothing solid on 3.0, it just always seems to come up from conversations as something really big. I think they may make the Quantum 16 voices if you don't use the analog filter... they'll put the digital Quantum filter in, instead. That's one of the things I've heard, but it's mostly a bunch of chatter.

As to triggering it, well, it's just incorporated into my setup. I have an MPC Live as the brain, which sends out to the Wavestate, Virus, Moog Sub 37 and the TR8S, and now the Iridium.

You've probably read that the one big complaint everyone seems to have is the squandered potential of the 16 pads not being velocity/aftertouch sensitive. I agree, but I'll also say that what's nice about them is just being able to go grab the synth and sit on the couch or lie in bed and do sound design and not have to worry about a keyboard. I can also see using them to perhaps just play some chord progressions, which would free up my mental space for other playing.

asm non-hydra thingie, yeah. a boy can dream. before the iridium came out, i was fantasizing about something a asm version of the prophet x/quantum. total pie in the sky, but i’m a way off from having synth funds, so i can wait.

re the pads: i do some programming with the hs desktop and the pads are very cool, but they also have aftertouch, so i’m really happy with that.

You have both the hs and hs desktop ???

I noticed you found me on Facebook, even with my pseudonym. I can only imagine how.

a lot of those synth things i’ve done use that approach.

if you add in using the aftertouch and having different settings in the mod matrix, you get a lot of interesting movement.
I think i wouldn't do the instrument justice if I got one.....
So many awesome tones in that beast.

Id end up playing chop sticks

But the microtonal thing would be a step in the direction I'm going since what I do pretty much...."atonal"
