Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

^^^

that thing does look/sound amazing

I really like mine. 300 note polyphony and 16 part multi timbral, so I’ve done many tunes with just that one synth and a controller/sequencer. Love FM for percussion stuff too. I still don’t totally ‘get’ FM as far as programming, but the EssenceFM makes it pretty easy to design your own patches

And it’s on sale at Perfect Circuit :)

I don’t need this temptation right now :)

Did you consider the Digitone? I’m sure I’ve asked this before. Seems like it’s easier to use. The touch screen is possibly more useful than the Digi sequencer.

I definitely considered the Digitone, though I wouldn’t say it’s easier to use. Elektron sequencers are amazing, but I have an Octatrack and Model:Cycles. Digitone is really great, but I’m glad I went with the EssenceFM for voice count, stacking/layering and programming ability. I also love that when I have any questions, they’re answered by the guy (Stephane Damo) who designed it. Small companies like Kodamo and Dirtywave make me happy for some reason.

luckily, my mind is fixated elsewhere, because i also saw that price.

(i need to revamp my mixer/interface situation. ugh.)

What are you thinking of doing?

What are you thinking of doing?

dunno yet.

do some research, throw myself on the mercy of the gods and spend some money to replace what i’ve been using for the last 12-13 years. what i have now does not seem to pass a lot of (enough for me) signal and it’s getting annoying.

i probably need a 16-channel mixer (so i can be lazy and leave everything plugged in) and an interface to connect to my daw, which is ableton now, but might change.

@steubig i feel you on the mixer thing. I wound up with a Bluebox but have ordered a controller for it.

EssenceFM is tempting, but how is the filter on it? Utilitarian or interesting? How is the (musical) distortion?

Right now I’m thinking I’ll stick with ID700 for digital FM, but it is on my radar for a polysynth.

After my complex LFO adventures, I realized I had a few too many “pre-decisions” in my Eurorack, so I swapped in more utilities and basic modules which allows for greater improvisation.

Change DAW??
I'll take that bet.

Re: Ableton.
Same, I use such a small percentage of what it can do it's embarrassing.

I’m sure the programmers regret wasting time coding it all when you clearly don’t need those features to put out brutal noise ;)

I’m in vocoder hell. Trying to get this plug-in to do what I want. I know it does it but I’ve got user errors to fix. It would help if I want tone deaf and had some vocal control.

this was in my fb feed today.

happy new year!

Why quit Live? I mean, I have more or less moved on to Bitwig (electronic) and Logic (bands) but lots of people love it. @steubig sounds like a new mixer with an audio interface is what you need.

yeah. that’s step one. then a new computer, which probably means a new daw (or new version.) i’m seriously behind on my tech.
