Hi,
I am looking to buy an American Performer Precision, and I'm down to either the 3TS or the Satin LPB.
I think I am leaning more towards the Satin LPB, but I owned a Black satin BB735A in the past, and the satin finish on that made the body slippery when sitting down to play. Also, the level of satin finish just showed greasy fingerprints and they were hard to remove.
Is the Fender satin LPB good for day-to-day use? I really like the colour, but if it's going to look like a smudgey mess, I'll just go for the 3TS. I figure the blue will hide marks better than the satin black.
Also, how do they sound compared to other P basses? I only ask, as I played an Am Perf Mustang bass in my local store, and the output was muted and a little flat. All other P's in store were noticeably louder for the same amp settings, and had that really rich P bass tone. I have a CIJ Mustang, and the AP Mustang sounded really really... weak. I was a bit shocked. I know how good a Mustang should sound.
I'm not sure if it's a Yosemite/Greasebucket issue, or just a Mustang bass thing. The pickup height might not have been dialled in either, so maybe it was just a setup thing.
They didn't have an Am Perf P in stock, so I will be buying online from a store with a good return policy. Makes me nervous, but I haven't had any bad online experiences with basses.... yet.
