I'm really excited about getting the bass. This is the one that doesn't have the stock controls but I'm still thrilled about hearing how it sounds through my SVT. I haven't been disappointed by the V/V/T configuration in the past so I'm not terribly worried about missing out on the V/T/V/T setup of the stock AVRI62 Jazz. Perhaps I will look into getting the accurate control plate put in at some point but I'm not expecting it to be anything I'll lose sleep over.

I'll definitely post some pictures of the bass once it gets to my apartment. Here are the photos from the listing, though.

The neck tint doesn't look nearly as dark in these pictures as the bass I tried at the music store. Did that vary between different years of production? This one is listed as being from 2007. I don't know the year of the bass that I tried but it was being sold as new so it could be one of the newer builds. The neck on this looks much closer to the reissue that Sweetwater has in its showcase.




That makes sense. The detents were new to me; I wasn't expecting those when I started playing around with the bass. As it turns out, the bass that I ended up with doesn't have the factory control plate anymore so this won't be an issue.

Can anyone comment on the differences between the individual tone controls versus the master tone? From what I've read, having a tone control for each pickup seems to result in a darker tone. Would the differences between the two be noticeable enough to even bother switching back to the factory setup?

Thanks guys!

I offered $1050 and they accepted. It's not the deal of the century, by any means, but it was nice to get it down a little bit. I didn't expect them to drop $150 from the initial price.

I'm not very good at negotiating. I probably could have gotten it for a little bit less but I didn't want to insult them with too low of an offer. The guys were really cool and I'm okay with paying a little bit more to get the bass a little bit sooner. All in all, depending on how well it plays, I think I'll be happy with the investment.

Hopefully this is the case! I went to visit my sister and niece this evening and we got some Chinese takeout. My fortune cookie said something along the lines of a new investment bringing unexpected results. I got a kick out of that since it was only hours after buying the bass that I cracked open that cookie. :)

I would have been fine with paying $1500 for a new one, based on my experience with the bass at Dave's Guitar Shop. If this one lives up to that one, I'll be very happy. :)

That is a great picture! Very nice looking bass and excellent choice of rig. :D You also slightly resemble a young Gary Cole.

I have another question for the the AVRI Precision experts. I've been reading around the place that the 57's used to have a Soft V profile for the back of the neck and the 62's had the C (I could be wrong here). But now, they both come with the same neck, the only difference being maple of rosewood fingerboard.

can someone corroborate this? What year/s did they start shipping off the precisions with the same necks?

Also, I've been reading that at some point the 62 Jazz used to ship with a white pickguard on the black models and other custom colours. Is Olympic white a custom colour? What year did they start shipping with tort with black if this is true?

The CS is supposed to have the same pups as the RI '62, but they sound much different. I think the stacker has different wiring and capacitors; although, I haven't looked. That could acount for part of it. My RI's have great necks and feel great to play. I bought the LPB Jazz on ebay (of all places), but I really lucked out. It is mint! I have the chrome covers for all of them and all my basses have TI Jazz flats on them. I just got the Custom Shop Jazz last week (it's phenominal!), and I think the Lyte Deluxe will have to go to make some room.

I got my AVRI '62 Jazz on Wednesday and it's even better than I was expecting! The bass I played at the shop was nice but the setup on this was even nicer. The strings are super fresh and zingy (in a good way). I need to find out what brand they are. They have a purple wrapping at the winding posts.

This is a cruddy photo. I was too excited to get playing that I couldn't be bothered to wipe her down and take time to get good lighting. I'll get around to it, eventually.

When I saw the photos provided by the seller, I was concerned that the bridge cover was aligned improperly. It turns out that it is indeed crooked. It doesn't bother me enough to correct, though. I don't know if I'm going to keep them on. I'd hate to drill another hole in the bass and then end up taking them off.

Another concern I had was about not getting to experiment more with the stacked concentric controls. That's definitely not an issue. After hearing how great this bass sounds as it is, I have no desire to bother changing anything. :)

I'm beyond happy with this bass. I'm also very happy that I didn't settle on another bass. Fender has some great Jazz basses available but this one just feels and sounds perfect.

I've got a question for the AV Jazz owners. I own an AV62 Precision, and I love the look, so I decided to add pickup and bridge covers to my AmStd Jazz bass.

I hit a snag, however. The bridge cover picks up feedback. I guess it starts to resonate with certain frequencies, and then it passes those vibrations through the bridge pickup and creates a feedback loop. It also has a very bell-like sound when tapped.

Has anyone ever experienced this, and perhaps thought of a good fix for this problem?

That's very weird! My 62 Jazz RI doesn't do that with the covers on.

My only guesses (not being able to evaluate the instrument first-hand) are that either the cover is not snug enough to the body, or is actually making physical contact with the bridge (which it shouldn't be).

This is my new Fender American Vintage Precision Bass Reissue '62 in fiesta red.
There were not many made in that color, only in year 2000 and on 'special order'. I saw one in this thread.
Aged White pickguard, clay dots, vintage bridge and tuners, product code 019-0116-840, serial V121xxx.
Just arrived... My GAS is on a rest... :bassist:
