This made me smile. I suppose it's kind of satisfying to engage in a discussion about which degree subjects are a waste of time, right up until the moment when someone mentions yours.
to be honest, i agree, to a certain extent. Music degrees, at the university level, and the cost, are, imo, a waste only insofar as they do not typically require a four year degree. A trade school of sorts would be much better. cheaper for the student, it doesn't go into all the ludicrous math and history nonsense that isn't require for a job within a musical field, etc.
perhaps i should've been more specific. The typical art degree is pointless. if you want a degree in art, go to a trade school that specializes in that.
Engineering, Psychology/counseling, Special Education, and education in general, are most of the few courses that should actually have a full tiered degree program, imo.
cut down to a trade school type of setup, and eliminate all the superfluous junk courses, and art would be a viable option. Sadly, most schools Art degrees are occupied by hipsters with no real purpose or goal in life, and who will never actually use it to get anywhere.
