Perhaps that was the goal in developing such a "two party system"?

No, two groups formed because the Founding Fathers had two different sets of views. And subsequently, history shows that party politics were far more dominating in the past; and many of the things we find so vile about the present state of our two-party system were much more frequent even at the onset of the nation.

Interestingly though, most if not all of the Founding Fathers were among the wealthiest people in the colonies. They were probably largely consisted of the "1%".

Pretty much. I think the us vs. them is insane these days.

There's always been an Us vs. Them though. It's just moved and moved over the years. First it was the Brits vs. Us. Then it was the Natives vs. Us. Then it was North vs. South. Then it was the "negro" vs. Us and the immigrant vs. the natural citizen. Then it was the Communists vs. Us. In More recent times it is the Muslim vs. Us, the Hispanic vs. Us, etc, the Liberals vs. Conservatives ( which has always been a dividing line, since the days of Loyalists vs. Patriots), rich vs. poor (which has ALWAYS existed), etc. It's not any worse now, just more visible because of media. To pretend that it's more pervasive is incorrect. It's been pervasive throughout American history and any history. The only difference between now and then is we are economically declining rather than thriving. If we were thriving nobody would be b******g. Our present state opens wounds which already existed but were coated with prosperity. Which is part of the reason we are where we are - because the average person sits fat and content when they have their fill of prosperity, regardless of who's expense it comes from. When the feed trough starts to go empty though they go haywire. Our collective feed trough is dwindling.

It's same as it ever was. Any romanticism about a glorious past full of unity and integrity is a lie. The Civil War is a testament to that. Our country has been divided since before it even existed. The only thing that's different now is the collective descent of our state...and people can't agree on who to blame.
