I use a tube emulator premap (SAPDDI) on my board, plus a compressor, into a rackmount 4-band paramatric EQ/Preamp + power amp. That way I have three channels of 'amp type' [1. "Flat", 2. Tube Amp, 3. Bassman-esque. Covers 90% of all songs, plus I have another SABDDI used as an effect for "SVT" sound], the compressor output is used to balance the volume discrepancy between different basses, and the parametric gives me EQ and 'room' adjustment. If the room is too boomy I adjust the EQ to taste.
If only Carvin made a BX500 style Pre-amp....

A one channel, amp with a fantastic baked in sound, a pre/post DI out, bass, mid, treble, gain, and master, and 4,8 ohm ability, the most important factor is the baked in voice.

The most useful feature to me is a volume control.
I know you said you're looking for a pre-amp, but my tube head has the EQ set pretty flat, I run my Jazz Bass wide open, and just add or (occasionally) subtract loudness as needed. I'm lucky that I like the sound of my bass and amp just as they are. I can get all the different flavor I need by rolling the V and T knobs on the bass.

Hi guys!
Some weeks ago I'm started desing a tube bass preamp...
So, sometimes I've a gig and was wondering what a gigging amp features are desirable in that situation... I was thinking in a pair of EQ sections: a fender and an ampeg style that can be selectable via a footswitch.. I'm playing in a cover's band..
So,... what do you think is usefull in an amp for you in a gig situation? two channels? three channels? multiple EQ settigs? whatever...

This sounds like a Super Bassman to me. Add a favorite fuzz and you've got most dirts covered. Flavor with other effects to taste.

Clever! I must remember this.

To the thread topic...I like a DI built into the head that provides pre- and post-EQ, but most useful is an ATTENUATOR. That thing has come in handy more times than I can remember. The gain stages on mixing boards are NOT created equal.

I would like controls that go past 10. These antiquated systems are limiting my ability to grow and evolve as a bassist and humanitarian. The world deserves more than a paltry "10" especially from its bassists.

Since I know there is no Infinity knob could we at least expand to say, 30? By the time we adapt to the expanded capability maybe the Infinity knob will be perfected.

Failing that I would love to have a Country/Western toggle on the front panel allowing me to change genres with the flick of a switch.
