Double Bass amp for electric AND upright

I'm pretty sure the SWR Workingman series were all solid state, so the preamp tube comment perplexes me a little. Did I miss a model of WM that had a tube in the preamp?

I was talkin'about a Basic Black from the '90.
I have it in a school where I'm teaching and once in a while I have to fix the tube.

I used a WM12 for several years. Loved it for electric bass and found it too scooped to sound right for double bass. It was also pretty bulky and clumsy to carry around.

Has anyone here ever tried a Markbass CMD121p for playing a double bass in a big band situation? Some users have said that it works in loud situations because it's very punchy, and this appeals to me.

Any help would be great!

I'm feeling the same way about my WM12. Good workhorse amp, but it sounds much better for electric bass than upright. Actually I find it a bit too modern for EB even, and I use a SansAmp VT Bass to Ampeg up the tone a bit (if I can use Ampeg as a verb...). I run my DB through a Fishman Pro Plat, and that helps out alot. I'm still eagerly eyeing the new GK MB combos, particularly the MB115 to replace the WM12 as soon as I can swing it.

Hey folks, i was running my upright through a SWR workingman's 12 that i have mainly used for electric for the past 6 or so years. the thing actually crapped out and started making this horrible crackling noise when i hit certain freqs (i think it was due to the abuse this amp went through my teenage years of loud music, all knobs all the way up).

im currently looking for an amp that i can use for upright but also for electric that isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg (im a broke college student so thats about 1 grand.)

has anyone had a similar experience with SWR amps that i have explained here?

what are some good makes and models of all-around acoustic/electric amps out there?

The one I would use is a glockenklang bassart top with either the acoustic art cab for upright or the bassart cab for electric.

Great amp, that...great amp indeed.

The price might be a stopper tho( I only read the post properly once I had posted...)
