Amp Jack Replacement Nuts and Washers?

I've been trying to replace the jack nut and washer on a Fender Bassman 100 Combo Amp with 15" speaker from 1999 but I can't find the parts.

I ordered two different replacement jacks that seemed like they had the same specs just to get the washer and nut off of it, but both ended up not working out. This jack on the Bassman just has a different size washer/nut.

Fender sells a jack that looks like it will work, but it doesn't have a washer/nut with it. Here's that part : Invalid Link Removed

I measured the nuts I tried putting on my jack, and most of them were 10 or 9 mm diameter on the inside. I think it might need an 11mm or 12mm diameter for the inside of the nut.

Does anyone know where I can find a part like that? I've been looking everywhere. I'd even be fine buying a whole set of assorted ones just to avoid times like this in the future.

I'm actually selling this amp, I just want to get it nice and ready for the buyer. I've tolerated the crappy jack for awhile now because I use it as a practice amp, but I ended up getting a better solution so I'm offloading this guy.

Or part out some other junk. Make friends with a local tech, they probably have some spares thrown in a bin.

Thanks! I have a lot of spare parts because I do my own work on guitar electronics (not amps). I just can find anything that will fit!!

There are about 4 or 5 different nut sizes and thread pitches used. Your best bet is to find a real repair shop that has a good stash of replacement parts acquired from bone-yard amps.

I just located a amp guy nearby, as well as a electrical repair shop that also works on guitar amps, and then emailed them asking if they could get me a replacement part from their spare bins or other source.

You will need to bring your amp to them to test fit the candidates. You can not tell visually. trust me on this

I thought I might have to do that, but I was hoping I wouldn't.

I have a truck it will fit in easily, so no big deal.

Be careful not to strip the plastic threads when test fitting, it's not all that hard to do IME.

I hope I didn't already do that when I was trying to screw on some other parts!

I guess I have a few spare jacks now though from trying to find one to harvest the nut/washer from, as well as some local amp repair contacts!

Yeah, that style jack can be quite a PITA to deal with.

Here is one source if the amp guy doesn't pan out. It helps to have the fender part number for the jack, then they point you to the nut that goes with it.

I often have luck at my local hardware store. Sometimes not. I have bought lamp nipple nuts that work as well as whole toggle switches I've scavenged the nut from.

Well alrighty then!

It used to be that jacks, and switches and pots for that matter, were a standard size. Unfortunately this is no longer true. Any of us who do tech work would probably have suitable hardware in their parts drawers. I know I do. The best route to follow is to order a complete replacement jack from FMIC and just use the hardware. Shouldn't be too expensive. Keep the rest of the jack in case of future need.

You'd be surprised. I live on an island with a huge maritime industry and lots of specialized electronics/radio parts. Our regular hardware store has a HUGE aisle of tiny bins of hundreds of items. Even plastic jam nuts.

If you are ever in the area, stop by. I can't imagine there is a jack I don't have parts for in my parts bins.

What is a plastic jam nut?

Like a metal jam nut, only plastic

A hex nut that is shorter or thinner than regular is called a jam nut.

the hex shaped thing in the black square in the first post is a ham nut./

Jam nuts are pretty standard parts. The jacks often use non-standard thread pitches and diameters. They are often proprietary to the manufacturer as well as the industry.

This is why real pro shops have well organized boneyard parts inventory. Some parts become unobtanium when the original manufacturer discontinued the part. It's happens quite a bit as small manufacturers across China and Korea have shut down.
