Amp suggestiones

I'm currently looking out for a new amp in the 700 Euro price range (still saving up). Back here in Europe we have 'Music Store' which is the biggest music shop in Europe and has seriously good prices. For example an Eden E300 (head+cab) sells for 1100 Euro but I can get it at Music Store for just 699; a GK 700RB II combo costs around a 1000 Euro, and in Music Store only 699... So any amp you can think of that costs around 1200 to 1300 $ or around that number for anyone European, and that you feel would suit my needs as a bassplayer, well I'm all ears! So here's my needings: I play the bass in any way I can: finger, slap, tap, pick, strumming, but most of the time it's just fingers and pick. I'm in rock band playing hard and loud stuff, and just aswell playing a 'walking' bass interlude of some sort, slapping on some funk jams, or being downright soft and mellow. We're playing everything that works musically and anything within our technical abilities, so it's all music that we play, and not so much a genre per sé. I hear GK has pretty clean sounding amps with lots of low end and good overall quality, and although never having played one (only heard) I fear they might be too clean when my band is playing a downtempo bluesrockjam or what. I like a clean sound, but I want decent versatility.

Any suggestions?

Yes, go try out everything you can afford, and buy based on how they sound to you. Also, don't spend the wad on an amp, and skimp out on spkrs. In fact, spend more money on the speakers, and you'll be alot happier.

+1 on putting more $$$ in a speaker cab than an amp head.
I know from past browsing, that Hartke and Ashdown are good selling brands in the UK. The Hartke 3500 bass head with a matching cab(115 or a 410) should point you in the right direction. So you guys recommend Hartke? I never played these. I play through a less than able Laney amp for the moment and have played through Fender and Trace Elliot, liking TE the best. Where would you put Hartke soundwise as opposed to TE?

I play the same way and same styles as you and I love my Gk1000rbII, I dont think it is too clean, for you though you shouldnt need more than the 700rbII. As far as cabs go I love the sound and versitility of my 12's.

Do you have the combo or the head?? The combo seems pretty attractive!

The most versitile amp I own is my Phil Jones BG800, but unfortunately it's probably out of range price wise. Maybe the Orange Tiny Terror bass and one of the SP cabs.

The Hartke 3500 is a good solid amp that will hopefully last you a long time and doesn't cost very much. I have no idea what it sounds like compared to TE because I haven't played one of those. I think you would love the G-K, once you see all the things you can do to create your tone with it, I have a feeling you will be very happy. I have a G-K 1001RbII and a MESA/Boogie BASS 400 all valve head. They are very different from each other, but they both have their own rolls to play. If you get a G-K and think it doesn't sound enough like a valve amp, get a TECH 21 VT BASS pedal and you will be ecstatic. All the best. Cheers.
