Amp techs, what's on your bench?

Yup, exactly. I know you could say it belongs in FX, but I think this sort of gear fits better with the technology discussions in this forum than it would fit over there, so I'm happy for twofingers to go ahead and start his thread about the recon job here in Amps. Looks like really nice work, by the way.

Thanks! The storm the other night knocked out my internet (to be fixed Thursday afternoon). I'm actually siting at a freking McDonalds to get a little homework done (oy) and checked in briefly. I'll have a metric crap load of pics up soon though. So far it has been a lot of fun and a learning experience.


While we're at it, does anyone have any rough dimensions for an amp cradle? I'm going to start out with the simple wooden one with the three rods hold it together. As I figure out what I do and don't like about that I will design something more complicated if I see fit. Thank you!

The width varies depending on the size of the chassis. For something bigger like the Gates compressor, you could get a piece of plywood, put some carpet on it, put a stop along the bottom to prevent it from sliding off the board, and something on the back of the plywood to tilt it upwards. Like a drafting table.

I used 8" X 3/4" poplar board. It is a hardwood that can take the weight and it isn't too expensive. You can use anything though.

Hey thanks! And the gates is so freaking huge that it just sits on its side and you can open the hood like a '62 Impala.
