Amp to cab question..........

Hi guys! I feel really dumb asking this, but I want to hear my new 115 Dr. Bass cab tonight. I don't quite understand the connection to my GK 400RB......I know how to plug into the amp with my 1/4 in. cable but am unsure about connecting to the cab. Do I stab right into the center hole on the speak-on connection? Tried that and cable prong only went in 3/4 way. Wrong place? Push harder? That the way it's suppose to be? Help out an old fool......Bud

How did you order the cab? If it has speakon only connectors you're not going to be able to plug in a 1/4" anywhere. Some have the dual purpose connectors like Carvin where it looks like a speakon but you can plug a 1/4" in the middle and others are made for speakon only. You may have to get an adaptor (maybe radioshack or order a better one off the internet) or add a 1/4" jack in parallel with the speakon you already have.

Just pulled up the Dr. Bass site and this cab comes with duel 1/4 in. and Speak-on connectors. What looks like the 1/4 inch holes are filled with a milky white plastic. Maybe i need to unscrew the nut and remove some sort of plug. I bought this just last week from a fellow TBer. He ordered it and never used it.....too much delay in getting it built and shipped to him so he had to purchase another cab. No instruction sheet inside........I need instructions! Nuts! Bud

The holes that are filled could be drillouts for 1/4" jacks that weren't installed or taken for another project and filled in with silicone, or could be actual jacks that were sealed to prevent air leaks in the cabinet because whoever had it only used speakons anyway, just a thought (or two or three). The milky white stuff is likely silicone caulk. Take out whatever's plugging those holes and see what's going on in there.

OK, I'll get my socket set and see what I can do. But somebody answer me this....... the hole dead center on the speakon connection.....it's big enough for the 1/4 inch cable prong, but the prong just won't push all the way in......Am I just plain wrong trying to force it in there? Bud

There are some types of combination speakon jacks that allow you to plug a 1/4" in the middle and others are made for speakon (twistlock) only. You could try to plug it in with a small amount of force but if it doesn't plug in easily, I'd guess you have the kind that are speakon only. Getting any signal plugging in the middle?

Do Not force the jack into the speakon jack unless you feel like replacing it.

Take a pic and post it so we can tell you what you have and what to do. That would be the easiest way to deal with this at the moment.

If this is like my RX212 cab, there should be a regular old hex shaped nut above the speakon socket that has a plug in the middle of it. Pry the plug out. That's your 1/4 socket for your 1/4" plug. DO NOT try to force the 1/4" plug into the speakon socket. Your wrench set shouldn't be necessary, just a small screw driver to pry out the plug.

Yes! Yes! Nut off.......plug out........cable pluggled in! Thanks guys! But now everyone upstairs is in bed and they don't want me to crank it on..........The joy will have to wait till tomorrow.......when they've all gone shopping.....Bud

Yeah I was gonna say if with mild pressure it dont fit, dont force it. But if you wanna try a speakon later, go out and buy one or order one online, nice tight, fit...:eek: agian. My reply is getting to wierd, I'll stop. :rollno:
