Amp was Stolen,came back destroyed.looking to Rewire it

hey guy's i bought a SWR-la15 years ago , few months ago my friends house was robbed , anything that could be lifted fast was taken . my rig included

well the ******* took apart my bass cut all the cable and copper out.. nice yeah.. so the only thing to survive and work was my speaker ...tweeter...and cab..

so i'm look to salvage what i can from it , i want to hook up the cab as a spare speaker for my other amp

how do i go about wiring the speaker to tweeter... if i wasn't mistake its + to - , then - to jack neg and + to jack pos ? correct?

can i take a jack out of an old speaker ? i'm not sure what to search for amp building materials everything pulls up wood...

hey brother, I don't know much about wiring speakers up, though no doubt TB will come through for you shortly. In any event, I'm sorry you (and especially your friend) have had to go through such a BS experience. It always seems pointless, stupid, and extremely cruel to have that happen. Hope some stuff gets recovered and/or those responsible are found out!

well all of our amps were destroyed that had copper , the majority of the other items have been recovered like basses and guitars from a pawn shop , he was found and arrested but i doubt well ever see any form if cash from him, he was homeless but well see what happens

well im trying to find out how he had this wired , it looks like he had it hooked up right just snipped the end's off the speakers

if i had smart phone i'd have an image but ill use a camera when i get home from work . i need to figure out what ohm's i'd be running i dont wanna blow any more poopie i dont need to , i have a decent behringer bass head i got from the pawn shop that had my gear (i laughed ) and he said it's not stolen lol.

Between a woofer and a tweeter you need to have a crossover. If you wire it in parallel the tweeter will die in a heartbeat. in even asking what you have I doubt you can do a proper restoration of any of the damage. Truthfully maybe you should consider parting what you have out on Ebay. You'll at least get some money to fund replacing it.

As someone who has lost three basses to theft I commiserate with you. That said, you have to put this unfortunate episode behind you and move on.

If they took the crossover components as well then you may be better off selling the components and buying something new. The components can add up and combined with the hassle of redoing it all you might be time/money ahead to throw in the towel and get something else.

I picked up a SWR California Blonde (pre Fender) for $40...betting I could fix it for less than $200...then maybe sell it for $300-$350 (they are listed on reverb for $400+). I'd like to make some $$, but also "needed" an acoustic amp...so I took the bet. If I can fix it, I have an OK acoustic amp to use while it's listed for sale. If I can't fix it, maybe I can sell the speakers for $40.

I think it is the transformer because it looks fried and when I plug the amp into a GFCI outlet the GFCI automatically flips. I'm a complete electronics noob, a friend of mine (Chem Engineer mind you) said he thought it was the transformer, because it is shorting with power on or off.

Started looking for amps with the same transformer...and the SWR LA15 has the same transformer as the amp I'm trying to fix.

for what it's worth, I also play bass. Not very well, but I enjoy it. I have an Epiphone non-reverse Thunderbird and a Fender BXR 100 amp. I guess I should put that in my profile. I also know 4 notes on the bass.

If you don't understand electronics, you are already in WAY over your head and likely to spend money on an amp you aren't going to repair successfully.

Agedhorse is what we refer to as a “professional, do not try at home” - because he actually is a professional amp builder/designer working in the industry a long time for decent sized companies. He knows amps well!

So, sadly I know you wanted to fix and save this amp, but maybe you can give it to a local amp/bass tech in trade for some services (setups, pickup swaps, etc). Or post it back up for sale. (or see if your amp tech can fix it)

Transformer doesn't LOOK damaged, but the only way to tell is a proper test.

Aw shucks. I went and got some chips to watch this thread unravel. You're showing way to much maturity for a thread subject like this. Good luck, hope you get it sorted out.

I decided to move on to another project I don't understand, modding a circa 1960's AM/FM receiver into a modern bluetooth speaker. Got all the new components for Christmas, just using the old radio as the speaker box. If I ever learn something about electronics perhaps I could figure out how to use the old switches and nobs..but for now they'll just be for show. Peace & Happy new year!
