Amp Wattage question

Hi,

I recently had my amp stolen out of my bands van and need to replace it. I don't really understand the ohms, wattages and whatnot and would like to know what the best power rating to buy would be.

I'm using two trace elliot cabs. The back says 8ohm, 300 watts.

What would work well / not blow up these two cabs?

500 watt SS @ 4 ohms amp head or 300 watt tube amp head should be in the safe range.
