Ampeg 4x10 HE

This doesn't surprise me at all. It makes sense, and IMO, that's quite a low bar.

Besides the obsolescence-making amount weight of both, the 8-ohm 410HE doesn't properly pair with an SVT amp head (tube) unless you're running a pair of them and the 4-ohm 410HLF sound is a boomy low-end swamp.

There's a good reason why these cabs are virtually always easily found on the used market. They're overweight dogs. (I'm only half joking, to be charitable)

All the other or remaining cabs that Ampeg continues to make and offer are better options.

8 ohm resistor in parallel with an 8 ohm cab presents as a 4 ohm load. That's what was asked for. Just needs to be able to handle the wattage.

Probably last longer in a metal box with a socket for a speaker cable on each end.
That's pointless.
You double the power the amp is putting out, but the resistor just eats half of it. The drivers see no more power than If you'd have just left it at 8ohm.

Edit. It may be useful for over driving an amp to get character from it, I don't know for sure, but from a purely power/ output point of view, adding a resistor (dummy load) has no benefit.

You'd have to take that up with the bloke asked the question. He wanted a 4 ohm 4X10 and I told him how to get one. Seeing as he was talking about a stand-alone application, I kinda wondered myself, not being an SVT man.

Edit only use I've had for it was driving mismatched boxes back when the conventional wisdom was 2X12 couldn't do bass.

Yeah, I'm not an SVT fan either. I do have a Venture 3 that I would love to get the full power out of in a single standalone 410 sealed cab from Ampeg. Not complaining though. It can handle my GSS Sumo 1000w just fine (puts out 600w at 8 ohms). Sounds great with a 7 Pro too.

I'm not criticizing. I only know this because I've tried and measured the power leading to the drivers. The amp sees the resistor the same way it sees the cab and the power gets divided between the 2.

If it makes you feel any better, 1200w is only 3db louder than 600w. Double perceived volume is about 10db, which would require about 5000w more to achieve (coming from 600w).
I totally understand wanting all the output possible , but you really aren't missing much at all. 600w is quite a lot of power.
 
Picked up a used SLM 410 HE from the same store. It's in great shape. It's the 200 W version. Saved me half the $.
Stacked them up seems to be working good.
Only thing I don't like is the wheels are not removable.
