Ampeg 810 refurbishing

Yeah, both my markbass head and cab came with combo speakons, theyre awesome. Do you have the link for the circuit boards for me to grab a few?

I'm waiting for them to arrive. I'll post a link or update here as soon as I've tried them.

Here is a link to the combo speakon: Invalid Link Removed

The first set had the drill sizes a little too large for the speakon terminals, hopefully the revised ones will fit better.

I received the new prototype speakon combo printed circuit boards.

The boards are designed to be used with the Neutrik NLJ2MD-V that has vertical terminals: Invalid Link Removed

There are two boards, a round one that matches the barrel size of the speakon combo connector, and a 1" square one.

The round board costs $4.10 for three copies delivered: OSH Park ~ Neutrik Combo Adapter Round
The square board costs $5 for three copies delivered: OSH Park ~ Neutrik Combo Adapter Square

The boards have two 1+ and two 1- pads. One set of pads goes to the speaker, 1+ to [+], 1- to [-]. The other set are intended to be connected in parallel to another speakon, 1+ to 1+, 1- to 1-. This allows daisy chaining cabinets.

Both boards mount flush against the speakon. It is important that the wires be soldered to the boards before the boards are soldered to the speakon. On the round board, the soldered wires need to be trimmed flush with the back of the board so it will sit flat against the connector. On the square board, the solder pads clear the barrel which makes connecting the wire easier. The wires can go through the pad and there is space for it to wrap onto the pad, a better connection. You can see the pads in the attached images.

The round boards were designed to be used with an Ampeg B-15N cabinet where the connector is mounted on the cabinet wall which is ¾" plywood. The board and wires can be installed on the speakon and pushed through the mounting hole in the cabinet wall.

If you have the option in terms of space, I recommend that you go with the square board.

NOTE: I have no financial interest in these boards. Just making them available.

Thanks so much! Im gonna grab a set of these bad boys and bring my old cab into the modern age!!:D

That is the horizontal version of the same connector. Like the vertical terminal one, it is a pc mount version as well. The board that I referenced above requires the vertical version.

If you had the horizontal model and weren't mounting it on a printed circuit board, you'd have to solder the wires directly onto the speakon terminals. It can be done.
