Ampeg 8x10 from the 70's, Good Find?

We play outside quite often though. I played thru a GK 1x15 the other day and that was not good for **** :) I want a 4x10 with a 1x15 or a 6x10 or 8x10

i think you mean preamp and power amp. a conditioner wouldn't do anything like amplifying your preamp.

but a 250-300 head, i would suggest this:

the Gallien-Krueger 800RB is often regarded as the best solid state head ever made. It's extremely reliable, cheap to buy, very loud, and sounds great! Plus, the price on that one is fantastic.

Definitly not from the 70's. I can't zoom in far enough on the s/n to get a look, but from the "look" of the plates I'd say its no older than about 94-95. If it works, the cab isn't broken, it has original or factory replacement speakers and noting else is wrong with it. Its not a bad deal, but unless the guys said something like "Like from the 70's" hes lying to you, and I'd be real leary. I have an 8X10 from the 70's and have had it since the 70's and thats not one. Also, I was an Ampeg/ SLM warranty center in the 90's. My guess in mid 90's.

Thanks a lot. What do you think about a hartke 4x10 with a carvin head? is that a nice combo?

yup, that would work. do a search on here for power amps. you'll get many results with tons of information. notable brands-carvin, qsc, crown, etc.

and a hartke/carvin setup would be pretty decent. depends on if the hartke is the xl series or transporter series and what model the carvin is.

Samalope, you're jumping all over the place & it doesn't appear you really know what you want or are looking for. Since you're new here, I'd recommend doing some reading through this forum and get an idea of what's out there and take from it what you can. Don't rush into something that involves spending up to $800 (I get that from the price of the cab plus what you thought you might like to spend on an amp). Sure, it "may" be a good deal, but there will be other good deals to be had, don't worry. Read through the forums, learn how things work... Then start asking questions to narrow down to what will work for you and fit your budget. It's better to wait just a little and be sure than to rush into buying something you might regret and not be happy with. Also, look through the TB classifieds...usually lots of fair deals in there too. Good Luck!

The Hartkes are supposed to be good quality, I don't personally like the sound of the aluminium cone speakers, I haven't heard them lately. Carvins stuff has a good reputation and is probably a good choice for quality on a relative budget. I'm just an old fart that loves the tube sound of my CL matched to the "fridge". I have thought about something lighter and easier to move around since it is a pain to load the Ampeg and its cabinet just to gig one or two nights a month. Some of the other guys on hear could probably tell you some modern lighter solid state amps and cabs that would do you well. Lot of knowledgeable PPL here.
