Double Bass Ampeg and Bergantino

I am going to replace my small to medium sized room rig with the Ampeg PF-50T all tube amp. I am buying a Bergantino Reference 112 to go with it. The combo sounded great at the music store but wondering if anyone out there has used something similar at a gig? I ordered both units so I won't have a chance to try it out at a club for a couple weeks. Thanks for your help.

I have an older berg HT112er and Demeter mini 800d - they sound great with eb and urb.

I use a pf50 with a Markbass 112 ny. Also sounds great for low volume gigs. Loud bar gig I use the Markbass 112 combo and Markbass ny cab. 500 watts, plenty then. I have used pf50 with 2 Ampeg 210s at a large dance hall and got compliments on its sound and clarity.

Are you using this rig for double bass? If so you might be on a track that is interesting to a lot of people right now by using a tube amp. Buy the amp, but consider purchasing a MAS speaker of some kind either new or used here in the TB classifieds. You will likely be very happy.

I got my first real amp.B-15N(C) and bought my Mirecourt Bass at around the same time. Unfortunately, pickups were so awful in 1975. Playing DB with an amp wasn’t a viable option.

Yeah, I will be doubling with this set-up. I've played EB for 43 years and started on DB almost a year ago (after cancer treatment). I bought an Eminence with 41 1/2" scale and have an Upton Bohemian coming in a few weeks (with Krivo and Yamahiko).

I bought a quilter and didn't like it, tried many other class D amps and felt the same...just didn't have the "girth" I was looking for. The best sound I got was from my 25 year old GK 800RB (with 210 Hartke for mid/highs and 115 Hartke for lows...bi-amped). I also got a really nice sound from a Aguilar DB751 through a DB 212 cab...but I'm not lugging either one of those around to my small DB gigs.

Anyway, I should have posted this question before I jumped in but...too late now. BTW, I did try Mikes 1-8 and though it sounded nice for the size, I didn't feel it would hold up for the stuff I do (didn't really give it an honest chance though). However, now that I have the 3/4 bass coming, I think the MAS will get another try someday...I really like Mike and he is certainly the innovative genius that people claim.

I will give a full report as soon as I get all of this gear together and start gigging with it. Sorry for the long post, but I want to thank all of you for your input and I'll post a photo when possible, as soon as I figure out how!

I got my first B15n used in about 1970. It was all I could afford. I put a JBL D140 in it. Sounded great! Only problem was.... THE PICKUP! I had a Polytone pickup, and a few others which were all horrible.
Finally getting an Underwood (#008) was a revelation. So much better than anything before it. And then getting a 10 megohm buffer pre made it even better. Then adding a Walter Woods head etc, etc, has lead me to be the gear whore I am today. So many good options now.

Same progresson here, I got my Mirecourt Bass in college, thanks to help from my Bass Teacher. Then purchased a used B-15N from Rocky's Music to use with my Fender Jazz Bass. I thought it would

be great to take my DB out on tour with the Ampeg and the Fender, so I got the Polytone tried it for a weekend, and took the bass back to my home, and finished the tour. Five years later on, purchased a Walter Woods MI-100-00

used the B-15N cabinet and eventually got an Underwood. Good times.

I once jammed with a WW MI 100 with electric bass, and it sounded and felt GREAT. I still feel that my WW MI 225 "Sweeper" doesn't quite replicate that feeling...

We then to overthink this. I never mistook any of these guys whom I have all seen live not sounding acoustic with these massive setups.

Yes, things have come a long way. In 1975, I was playing a Kay through a Peavey amp with a 2-15" cabinet. I had a Barcus-Berry bridge - the pickup was inside the bridge. That old Kay was destroyed in an accident, so we cut the pickup part of the bridge and glued it onto my new bass's bridge. The sound? Well, you could tell it was a bass... until the feedback started. I taped over the f-holes, but that only worked to a point. And it was great hauling that refrigerator around.

I've been using the older Bergantino HT112 cabinets for DB for over 15 years now, mostly powered with a Walter Woods. Sounds great with all the other heads I've used as well.

No experience with the Ampeg PF50T.
