Ampeg B-15 thread... first ever?

Ampeg says it's 120lb. (not sure if that's with or without dolly.)

Really? I got to believe that everything, dolly, head etc. To me the cabinet seemed no more heavey than a lot of the 1x15 around.

That speaker is not original and is a 2 ohm speaker... thus the 2 ohm setting. Using the head the way I found it (on 8 ohms) was actually incorrect for the speaker in the cab.

Understood.

JimmyM I wouldn't buy the S for $850. Too much wrong with it. That's more in line with what most people pay for them in VG condition.

I paid $800 tags, tax and title but then again I think mine is in pretty good shape. No rips in the grill cloth or tolex just a slight dent towards the bottom of the cabinet but hardly noticeable.

BTW I'm curious what your settings were on the B15s. I tun mine set to 'Flat' and everything at noon. I adjust volume and tone on the bass.

That's where I thought it sounded best as well. Flat was definitely my favorite setting on ch.1... I think I had more fun when I was on ch.2, though. Is it identical to ch.1 except for the response switch?

Sorry, I can't find that link for the S in Chicago. Maybe someone else can help. Turned out it wasn't working, though. Looked prety decent but the guy said it wasn't working shortly after I told you about it. They're not especially rare, though. They crop up fairly often. Or I'd offer the guy $500 for that one.

My first bass amp was a Standel custom.. Then I bought a B18. Man, that thing would pound the house down. you couldnt hear it but you could feel it. I then got a B15 and made the mistake of bolting them together to make it look like a bigassed amp. That was a mistake.. I must have weighed 500 lbs now. Even with the wheels on it, it was a monster to move. It was great for clubs and inside gigs, but playing outside you couldn't hear it unless you were a block away. My lead guitarist used it and blew the speakers out. Then I got a Sunn200. Not the same .. I miss that B15.

I have a question.
As my earlier post says ,I just picked up 2 67 B15 cabs.
The lid on one has the half way through holes for mounting the shock mounts for the head.
The other has no holes or marks what so ever. There is a cart mount bracket in the center of the lid.
I can't find any evedence of a head ever being mounted to it in a normal fashion.
This doesn't make any sense.
Anyone have any ideas?

Does the one with the dolly mount also come with the dolly ? If not, maybe you just have the dolly without the wheels, instead of a lid?

I believe that around 1967 Ampeg introduced a couple of cabinet variations. One was the B15NC, a 2x15 column cabinet (which I believe you also own). They also introduced the B15ND, which was a B15 with an additional 15" extension cabinet. Although I've never seen one in person my guess is that the lid with the knob could be attached to the bottom of the main cabinet, allowing it to be stacked and latched onto the extension cabinet.

You might have something there.
Yes ,I do have the 2-15 colume cabinet also.
You have me thinking though.
I just took the odd portaflex cover and matched it up to the bottom of the other cabinet.
The cart mount bracket on the odd lid matches perfectly to the cart mount on the bottom of the other cabinet.
I don't know what to think.
This is pretty cool though. I'm out of town for the week. When I get back home I'll get some close-up pcs of what I'm talking about.
Thanks.

Yea I moved pretty quick on them.

Those were my cabs, and the funny thing is, I didn't even post them for sale........I just wanted some help figuring out what I had! SedanDad tossed out a trade offer I couldn't refuse!

Many thanks, and I hope you enjoy the cabs, as they haven't got any use for a long time.....they deserve better!

I was at a wedding upstate NY a few back. The town is called Round Lake. It's an old Campground settlement, you Nor'easters may know about them, any way..There's a big meeting hall in the center of town all glass and wood, and used for church services. It's built around a huge pipe organ. the service was held there. While entering the building I saw in a dusty corner, an Ampeg Flipper. I've seen B-15's all my playing life, but this one was WIDE,much bigger than a 15 cab, maybe a 2x12? Never saw that before. Any clue what it was? I have to admit it made me think evil thoughts about slipping it in my pocket and running, but I rose above, heh!

Sounds like a B-12XT, which I believe is the model number of their 212 Fliptop.

Pedro, mine don't have pins, but I have tilted them back with a stick. It does make it easier for you to hear it as the audience hears it. But now my 77 has a dolly so I just leave it on the dolly.

By no means did I steal these,I did offer a real nugget for trade and I think we're both happy with the results.
Mimaz was a real gent and met me half way to boot.
Let me know when you get that Longhorn bass.
