Ampeg B-15 thread... first ever?

So I just got a Schroeder Mini 12 at 4ohm. I've heard that you can run a B15 at 4 ohms...but the 500 watt speaker seems pushing it. Anyone tried this? I'm thinking of using it for low volume recording, but I don't want to try it and blow the head. Thanks!

Thanks, I tried it out and it worked great! Didn't get a chance to play through it for too long, but the amp seemed fine. Sounded much better using the Schroeder Mini 12 than the home-made 15" I had been using. Nice and thick and the B15 didn't seem to break a sweat. The only thing I noticed is that I had to turn the amp up higher than usual to get equivalent volume, but it was still very clean up to useable levels.

The best part is that the Schroeder is so light I now have a decently portable recording rig!

So, as the new guy, who can't really play... I should be happy with this B-15 S?

2 of the knobs are sticky, and there is a lot of crackle when I adjust the volume. Once I find a stable spot for the volume, it sounds nice.

From reading this thread, I guess I can put a few dollars into fixing it up?

I absolutely LOVE my B15S. Its a keeper. ;)

Ya, A B-15S is pretty sweet. A little contact cleaner in the pots should fix you right up.

I hate being a noob... and I did search for B-15 FAQ's, DIY & Tech articles, but found nothing really, aside from schematics. I'd love to learn to do some of this type of work myself, which is why I joined the forum.

Can anybody point to a DIY thread for cleaning pots? Mostly, I'm worried about getting electrocuted. It does mention that it stores a charge... Is there at least a thread, or picture that says "Don't touch this ->" Should I start a new post about tearing into a B-15 for the first time?

I would be happy to start a new thread rather than hijack this one into a "How To" if that is the best solution, however if you have a link handy, that could be covered here :)

Thanks!

Not necessary. Pot cleaning is easy. Unscrew the two big bolts on either side of the head and lift it off. Behind each volume/tone control is a pot. Get some contact cleaner with a spray tube on it, and spray it in the pot where you see there's a little hole. Move the knob several times. Don't be afraid to spray a little more than you think you need. While you're at it, spray the on-off and standby switches. Should work without crackling after that.
