Ampeg B-50R is a fine machine

Bastard. Do me a favor and write me into your will?

Lobster, you explained my problem with the 50 exactly. That amp will never be friends with a hot 5er with strong mids. Too bad for me. I scored that little sucker for a hundred bucks and couldn't use it at all.

Works great with my SR5. But I don't think the SR5 is particularly hot. Maybe it is. I don't know

I have been searching and searching and searching for a B50 R. Had a chance to purchase one a few years ago, but got talked out of it due to it "only being 50 watts". Will never make that mistake again. I recently purchased the B100 R and love it. But still miss the sound of the 12" version. I've searched the normal avenues (feebay, c-list, GC-used, etc.). Are there any other recommendations out there? thanks.

If you live anywhere near the Canadian border, try searching the web classifieds called Kijiji (similar to CL).
Address to the Ontario site is Link Removed

Entering "Ampeg" in the search field yields the best results. I've seen two B100Rs and one B50R listed in the past 3 weeks or so.

SearchTempest is a great site that lets you do bulk searches of Craigslist rather than having to go city by city:

That's how I found my B50R.

BTW, it arrived yesterday and wow, what a cool little amp! I set all the knobs on 5, then plugged in my P bass with flats and it was instant classic tone. Could have thrown a mic in front of it and nailed any of these:

I Got One!!! Having the B50 R and B100 R, I can't think of anything else I would need at this point. Both are fantastic tone machines. Ampeg Rocket Bass amps and a American made Fender P Bass, great combination.

I just picked one up today, i traded a Mesa Powerhouse 1x15 cab for it (I got a great deal on the Mesa, so the trade was straight and fair to both sides)

I have been playing it in my living room all night, and boy its louder then i thought it would be at 50 watts! I have to keep it around 0.5 Vol, and up the EQ knobs to boost the signal to taste haha

Still it sounds really nice, i would love to hear it really open up, i guess i will have to wait until next week when I'm watching my parents house while they are away!

Anyone have any favorite EQ settings yet ?

I have been play at Bass 5, Low Mid 8, High Mid 6, Treble 3 with my jazz and its so smooth!

I bought one some months ago, and I really liked the sound and design although the Ampeg logo is not there. I've been using it for classes and practice at home, but the last weekend I used it for gigging in a garden party with a trio rock and it really surprised me. I turned at 3 o'clock and it's was fine, not so deep but enough for listening a decent vintage sound, by the way playing a Fender Sting signature.

I could recommend these combos for sure.

I can't believe I did this, but I just purchased a second B-50R for my use. Two days before Christmas I was killing time by searching used gear at Guitar Center and the store in Cleveland had a B-50R for $199! It looked great, and so the next day I called and bought it! It came today--plays great and now I'm ready if I need more power (I'll be selling my pre/power amp rack set-up soon).
Also--with all the flack that Guitar Center gets on these forums, I can honestly say that the Cleveland store was great to deal with. They gave me a great shipping price and the packing job was superb! Kudos to them.

I own both the B50R, and a B100R.
These are some of the best combo's Ampeg ever made.
I use the B50R for drum-less gigs. (Acoustic instruments)
And the B100R for medium gigs.
Both record well. I prefer the B50R for recording.
Why Ampeg stopped production on the B50R is beyond me.
Great amps.
If you can find one, buy it.

The B50R has been used in many classic recordings. I like'm.
