A hobbyist buddy who's made numerous Fender clones is threatening to make me an Ampeg B15 kit bass amp.
Looking at the price of components alone, I find that a little intimidating a cost to absorb, despite his generosity. Plus obviously I' d have to pay him for his time too.
On the other hand I have a 1974 V4B that needs an overhaul. I mean it works, but hums and farts and has overheated and quit on me before.
The dilemma is that I don't play in dance bands in halls and bars any more, and actually very rarely play "Out" any more and if I do, it's small venues so a B15 would be more portable and I hope versatile enough to handle my upright (with an Underwood PU) or my Jazz bass.
So should I put the money into a repair of the old amp or pay for the B15 kit? The repair is most likely the cheapest, but that V4B is a bugger to move around. You oughta see the 2x15 Ampeg cabinet!
OR: Is there a cheaper alternative to the Trinity B15 kit?
