Ampeg B200R vs Kustom Tuck and Roll - which is louder?

so I got the Kustom, it's definitely 100 watts as mentioned, but I played it next to the ampeg and it was a way bigger sound, although not necessarily a lot louder, although I didn't turn it all the way up. Now, my understanding is that the speakers are both 16 ohm (I haven't checked yet) for an 8 ohm cabinet. what would happen if I put in two 8 ohm speakers? would that work? would it give me more power?

Yeah, if you go with the Kustom make sure you get a three prong power cable on it. I got a shock from one last about two weeks ago from one that didn't.

I used it tonight in rehearsal for the first time. Not only is it loud enough, it has way more bottom end than the ampeg ever did. It fits perfectly. Couldn't be more pleased.

The ground lug on the AC cord for My Kuston 150 combo was removed by some previous idiot owner.

I have never been very strong, but my 2x15 is HEAVY. In mid 70's, I opened it up..[ rear loaded] ...LOT'S OF SCREWS.... As someone previously posted, there are 2- 16 ohm speakers; wired to 8 ohms. In an effort to discover why it was so heavy, I anticipated discovering a "concrete liner" but all I saw was 2 heavy speakers, plywood and fiberglass.

I have never had my CTS speakers re-coned, but would consider replacing them with JBL'S for improved tone or neos to reduce weight.

Another post comparing the Kustom to Ampeg mentioned "was not turned all of the way up". If you did, you would enter the Jack Bruce/ Felix Pappalardi Zone. Those old Kustoms don't have much head room and reach optimum volume with one cab @ "11'clock". After that; distortion city. You can clean it up by utilizing the "Bright" side with the Bright knob switched-on; bass on 1/2 and treble full-on; kind of clicky sounding but you lose some volume unless bass tone is maxed.

I mostly prefered: Bright side; Bright switch with Bass and Treble maxed, volume no higher than "4" or "11 o'clock."

Only way I have made mine sound good is to employ a Furman PQ-3 in front, which ends the tone debacle. If Kustom had only built that model with a mid range knob...

Anyone ever use that "RCA" ouput jack on the back panel? I have heard it's for "DI-RECORDING" from the head, but DI is DI. So couldn't you run a special cord with RCA-to 1/4 inch and have a line out to PA? That would be a great asset live, if that works; use lower volume and pre-amp out to PA.

Has anyone ever run a jumper cord from the Bright-side to Normal side or vice-versa.

You can restore that easily with a new 3-prong plug from Home Depot for less than $3; no soldering skills required.
