There have been many discussions on this wonderful head here. I've been involved in several of them. I've reviewed many of those threads, but failed to find the information I'm looking for. It's now time for me to have mine gone thru. I've located a competent tech, but wanted input from here too. Recommend me some tubes etc. for optimum performance for this tune-up. I know lots are subjective, but keeping in mind getting the wonderful tone with as much headroom as possible is, of course, the goal. Thanks for your input. :cool:

oren, ive had my "new" B25B for a couple of months or so now--- i immediately retubed it with JJ 6L6GC (cuz they were cheaper than the 7027, lol) and a pair of ECC83. rectifier and 7199 are original. they sound just great, IMO. the eurotubes guy says they have no problem running at high voltages, and that they are a good sub in ampeg stuff.

the mediafire link is to demonstrate mine--- a crappy cover that a friend and i laid down for fun over the 4th holiday. we were partying pretty hardy-ing, so prepare to be less than blown away at our virtuosity. the bass is a J with the neck pickup solo'd, straight into the B25B into a 1x15 loaded with a peavey scorpion (yes, really), and mic'd with a $60 mxl condenser. no other eq or processing. gotta love cheap and dirty, lol. i really really really really like the tone! :hyper:

Hey toob - I'm impressed with your "firecracker project." That IS the B25B tone/sound. :D

Thanks for the input - I'll check into the JJs. :cool:

I prefer the B25 with the original 7027As, not modded to take 6550s. NOS will cost you, but IMO better than the newer tubes. Outside of that, the tubes are reasonably easy to deal with.
