Got a 2nd hand BA 112 and found the bolt that holds a PC board or something rolling around in the bottom of cabinet. I could see the impression of Hex nut on back of cabinet. Could anyone tell me how to remove the cover. that is what Ampeg service Rep told me to do.
Jimmy I want to remove the cover for the amplifier not the speaker. Just not quite certain about how to go about it. I have to resecure board to back of cabinet. Thanks for the reply
IME, on some Ampeg cabs one would pull the threads in the wood before the grille comes off. The "perfect" tool to use here is something used at Mercedes to remove the central gauge cluster. It is a steel rod, similar to a bike wheel spoke, but with an angled hook at the end. Push it in, turn it so the hook grips, and then you pull the grill off. Easy and without damage.
The amp unit can be wedged in there pretty tightly even after the mounting screws are removed. But it will come off.
Hmmm...last edited by a moderator...that usually means they edited out some sort of wise-guy comment. Not sure if I want to continue helping.
The Ampeg Rep told me to remove the srews for the cover but I am not certain if I have to remove the knobs or what I am just tring to remove the cover for the amplifier. Sorry for confusion
Do you know how to remove amp cover? Is it just the 4 screws on the back or do you have to remove the big screws on the side?
Have you removed the amplifier chassis from the cabinet yet? There are three screws on each side of the cabinet, back where the amp is. Those hold the amplifier in the cabinet. Once the amp is removed from the cabinet the top of it should be open so that you can see what's rattling. Note, this refers to the older version of the BA-112. I'm not sure if the newest version will be different. Be careful poking around inside as high voltage can still be present in capacitors even after the amp is powered off and unplugged.
Thanks it was a penny some kid probably dropped in the vent holes on the back of the amp. Man I am so glad I found this forum. Thanks Jimmy it was a penny some kid proably droppped down in the vent holes Danny Aldred
Thanks Jimmy I used to have a B-15 portaflex back in the late 60's my first amp I started out with that and aTelestar Bass. I wish I had one now but the BA 112 isn't toobad
Man I saw James Brown when I was 13 or 14 at the city stadium and his Bass Player had a B-18 with a ext. speaker. Man I had never heard such Bass in my life. We did not have enough to get in so we were peeking through holes in the fence.
