Ampeg BA115T, some questions

Needing a smaller amp for some acoustic gigs we have coming up and my Hartke 3500 combo is way to big to use for that. I traded my old as dirt trusty but heavy as lead practice amp, a Peavey series 300 head and twin bottom 15 for this Ampeg BA115T.Being a parking lot trade(gotta love Craigs list)the amp looked great and i used a power inverter to fire it up and plugged my Ibanez Acoustic bass into it to test it and it all worked fine. After getting it home however and plugging my Fender P-bass lyte deluxe with actives in it,the speaker in couldn't take any kind of bass volume. So i did a little research on here and everyone seemed to think the tweeter made a ton of noise which i really didn't notice but didn't play that long.so when i took out the speaker to change i unhooked the tweeter and i replaced the Chinese SLM with a Celestion and the amp sounds awesome.i had no money in the speaker as i had taken it out of a bass amp i had smoked the power amp in.My questions are after all this is. 1-did i get ripped on the trade? 2- should i hook the tweeter back up? thanks for taking the time to read all of this and for any replies!!!

1. If you're happy now, that's what matters, but I'd be pretty upset if someone traded me a broken amp for a working rig.

2. Matter of taste. I wouldn't, but I don't like tweeters as a general rule.
