Ampeg BA600 power amp issue

The burned connector is almost certainly the result of the fault, not the cause of the fault.

There may be a power supply problem as well as an amplifier problem, and often there are interlocks between the amp and the power supply that can enable or disable parts of the supply in the event of a fault. All of this is much more complicated than an internet wild ass guess can solve. A qualified tech experienced with this model or line of amps is your best bet, but if the damage involves both the power supply and the power amp, it's likely that you can find a used one for less than (or close to) the cost of repair.

Thank you for the info. Well I am not going to do this by myself but am leaving it to the tech to fix it.

The previous techs that supervised this amp told me that the power supply unit works fine.

I am no technician myself so have no idea how to be sure that the psu works as intended.

But these little ampegs (ba600 in particular) cost at least 400eur in europe (used).

Btw if the preamp works fine is this not a sign that the psu might be ok?

Possible, but there are multiple elements to the power supply and the ways the protection circuits can work. I haven't looked at it in depth, but it's common when troubleshooting power supplies for class D amps that have extensive protection to have to consider this. The protection can act on only one section of the supply depending on topology.

Thanks for the info. I will give the board to someone to triple check this. Honestly I am also in doubt whether the psu works as intended. But have no knowledge to check it myself so can only rely on qualified tech opinion. My concern is the burnt molex from the psu so it would be logical to assume that the whole disaster might have been caused by a rogue psu right?
