so after my crap behringer combo dying on me (surprise surprise) I'm ready to move up in the world. Ive taken interest in this ampeg BA115HPT combo. First I have a couple of questions about it. it says 220 watts, will this be loud enough to play in a 3 peice band playing from cafe's to school auditoriums or will i need something of higher power? any suggestions on other combos I am open to! thank you for anyhelp.

This amp combo is one of the models I, too, am looking at to replace a Behringer. My Behringer hasn't quit on me. I just want something with, well, "more" and I'm interested in what others have to say as well.

Have you checked out the new Ampeg BA300? They're on the website. I don't know when they will be available though.

I have the BA115HP. The older model without the 12AU7 tube in the preamp. It's a good sounding amp with enough volume to keep up in moderate volume levels. I play with two 65 watt guitar amps (Line-6 Flextone III & Fender 65 watt Concert tube amp both run single 12's) and a drummer and sometimes keyboards. I can hang in there ok at a small to medium sized indoor gig but outdoors I'm really pushing the amp hard.
I have had problems with the tweeter on mine that caused it to be in the shop for six months 12/05 through 6/06. Bad warranty support in the Inland Empire was the cause of this. Ampeg had horrible shops set up as warranty contractors. Ampeg warranty covered the repairs so I eventually got it back.
I had to buy a Peavey Combo 115 to get me bye during that time and after playing through the Peavey I noticed how much louder it was than the Ampeg. They are both rated with similar out put 220 for the Ampeg and 200 for the Peavey. The BA115HP sounded better but couldn't put out the volume of the Peavey. I have since relegated the Ampeg it to a home practice / jam amp and bought an Avatar 210 cab and BBE Max/ Crown XLS 402 Power amp to replace it for gigs.
Ampeg seems to have a string of bad luck going for it right. The Loud pourchase of SLM and all of the internal strife caused by letting people go, assiging new job duties to those who are staying, and Moving the production all Ampeg products to a plant China seems to have created some QC issues. Check out some of the recent posts about the BA115's and BR200's read the issues that are being discussed.
If I were you I would give it some time before I bought it and see if things improve or consider a different brand. I'm not bashing Ampeg. I like their products. the Ampeg tube tone is they way I like bass to sound. I sure hope they get it back together before the name is drug through the mud.

You could look for a used Ampeg B-2 combo. I scored one
for 350 bucks and it makes 200 watts with the single 15 at 8 ohms plus it'll clock at 350 watts if you add an extra 8 ohm

In case you haven't noticed my previous posts, I am VERY happy with my new BA115HPT.
Great tone, and volume (probably) enough for the venues described.
It's a pretty cool piece of gear. I would describe the tone as more traditional than modern, in case that's important to you. I like the Motown/bluesy, country kind of tone anyway.
It's worth serious consideration.

Hey dude, here in aus the ampeg combo's are way to over-priced. So a lot of people tend to go for the ashdown abm combo's. They are sweet as sounding and the newer ones are a lot more reliable then ashdown's past combo's. Another combo is the little mark mark basss combo. That thing is seriously loud.
I think they are a little over priced in the U.S. for what you get. No effects loop, no ext. cab hook up, no ground lift switch, and no pre / post for the DI.
My Peavey Combo 115 has all of that. I have had cheaper combo amps that at least has a ground lift and an effects loop.
+1. I have one of these too, and adding a 2x10 on top rounds out the sound nicely and produces plenty of volume.
