Ampeg Heritage SCORE!

Well, my saga about the Ampeg Heritage head with Guitar Center has ended happily, and I'm the proud owner of a 2010 (with Winged C's) SVT Heritage amp. I used it for my first gig last weekend and it was everything I hoped and more - massively, fundamentally bassy, so warm, with excellent, musical note definition and a little top end if and when I need it. Only trouble is my 2 Aguilar SL112s sound like they're having a little trouble keeping up with it (thanks for the warning Jimmy M), so I'm trying to be careful. Hopefully an 810 is in my future!

The story with Guitar Center is they listed this at a really great price - exactly 1/2 of the price of a new one, with free shipping no less, but when I received it it was *not* a Heritage, but a regular old SVT-CL. Nothing against those, but it was not a particularly good deal in that case, and I wanted the Heritage. Turns out their computer system automatically comes up with a Heritage first. Well I've had some problems with GC in the past, and I spent a long time with an apparently ignorant salesperson, who "confirmed" that it was a Heritage and talked with me about how great it (the Heritage, he said) was, so I really put my foot down - after all, I had a receipt in hand stating "Heritage SVT" for that price and dammit I was gonna get it! I was pretty skeptical that GC wouldn't figure out a way to wiggle out of it, given my past history with them. There was another Heritage head on their website in another store, and to make a long story short...they came through! Restored my faith in GC, well, kind of anyway. Happy ending the head is now sitting in my basement and I'm thoroughly loving it!

Yeah, that was some malarkey. Good for you sticking to your guns. Welcome to the club! It really is all that and a bag of chips. And you have a first-year Heritage so that's way cool. If you decide to pop for an 810, I would hold out for the Heritage. Costs more but it's worth it. Best cab they've made since the flatback. OTOH, I totally get the lure of a big old tube head with a couple of light cabs...I've run my SVT's with a couple 210av's before. Sounds great.

Thanks all! Jimmy M, the small rig is transitional, an 810, yes a Heritage probably (used, mostly likely) is in my future. I do love the big/small combination. Maybe long term I'll look into a pair of the 210avs - they look great, and it'd be nice to have a light 410-like option.

I didn't realize this is a first year - that's really great. Serial #156! I'm really happy with it. In fact, gonna go play a little now!

Really happy for you! I'm a little amused because I follow a GC thread where people discuss used gear around the country and that amp as in the ad you called about was mentioned by people in the area of the store. However if you had seen that thread you may not have gotten that deal!

Sbassface are you talking about the original, low price ad? Why wouldn't I have gotten the deal? Because I'd have been too honest to pull that on them? You're probably right, I wouldn't have done it. I would like to see the link too.

I did call them like the day or the day after they posted it...I had been looking for one, and they don't come up that often, so I jumped on it.

The Heritage amps are nice...but I just wish they would get rid of that huge 90's logo. There's no need for it; it's like yelling, "But it's a HERITAGE!!!!" as if someone in the audience would care. It already states it on the control panel. It wouldn't be as bad if the style didn't look so much like mid-90's automotive lettering:

Actually, sbassface that is a later post that I noticed too. Mine was not *quite* that cheap...and in my case the pic, as well as the listing, was of a Heritage for sure. But to show you how honest I am, I did email the Ohio guys and tell them they've got a mis-posting, as some others apparently did too.

Mine was posted for a store in Oregon somewhere, though the one I actually got in the end was from LA since the Oregon guys did not have a Heritage.

Toxforth, I do totally agree with you and may take that off and in fact long-term might switch the grillcloth for the classic blue/silver. I've seen that fliptops.net has the fabric, anyone know of instructions on how to replace these? How hard is it to get the grillcloth & frame off?

NONONONONO!!! The Heritage badge is sick and so is the grill cloth! The Heritage logo was designed off an earlier Ampeg logo:

Link Removed

It would be just plain wrong to mod that grillcloth or remove the logos, and I simply won't allow it. If you absolutely have to have silver/blue cloth, get a new frame from www.fliptops.net or make one. Don't mess with the original one.

OK Jimmy calm down! I'm not sure I'll do it, and if I did I would not mess with the original so that it was undoable. But I do like the Silver/blue better (though the black is nice, especially in person). I have to agree still with Toxforth on the Heritage logo, historic or not though.
