Ampeg Hybrid Head Poll

If money, weight, and portability were nothing you had to worry about, all you had to do is plug straight into one of these heads and any Ampeg SVT-810, which of these current production heads would you choose?

Also, could anybody with experience playing and comparing these heads to each other help me out? What are the differences in sound and tone between these heads?

Not necessarily talking about features such as compression, overdrive, etc., I am mainly wondering differences in the fundamental tone itself between these heads.

Never played an 8 pro but the 7 pro sounds closest to an all tube SVT which is why I own one.

I love my 4Pro, but I'd almost have to choose the 5Pro if it was listed. The 3 would be next on the list, that's what I use for a test head at work. I haven't played the 8, and the 7 is just too quiet and 'meh' to me.

Personally I've never considered the 5Pro woth the Ampeg logo, but the SVT6-Pro was an astonishing head; an evolved but similar sounding SVT3 with more than twice the power.....

I've owned the 6Pro, (awesome), played with the 3Pro, (awesome), 4Pro, (ok), 7Pro, (better), and yesterday, the 8Pro, (best of them all). Those are *my* thoughts.

Only the 8Pro has the SVT tube preamp (i.e. SVC-PL), I wouldn't expect much of the other preamps, probably starved-plate junk. I use an SVP-CL with an IPR1600, about half the weight of the 8Pro and I'll take one on any day. I prefer my rig's tone to my last amp, a 1970 V4B. IMO the SVT preamp is the only great thing left that Ampeg has to offer, and now you can't get it without also buying a 2500W power amp. Pretty greaseball move actually.

I loved my 4 pro and before I sold it , I ran it in stereo through (2) 810's .....It was a total monster .......

derogaroty term for Italians; synonomous with dago, wop, and guido. I grew up with these terms targeted at me to which I simply replied "I'm an American of Italian decent" Pretty much made people re-think what they were saying as we are all American's first and formost (and that I am proud and thankful for) Oh- yes, 7Pro and 2 Berg HS210's all the way if I can't bring my SVT VR and 8x10. ( F Y I ...Jim Bergantino is a pisano!!! )

I always thought the SVT3 was underpowered. The SVT4 sure isn't.

Anything designed after Loud bought SLM is suspect for me, your mileage may vary. Heck, even SLM Ampeg isn't "real" Ampeg for an oldtimer like me.
