Could you please clarify the role of a moderator and explain why you can take aggressive tones with others and not vice versa? I understand the points you are making, but they have been put across in a very negative, and threatening way.

I am not trying to demean or belittle Jerrold. I guess I should have used a smiley in my post to help convey what I was saying to him. Specifically what was said to him was...

As to the rest of my first post, it goes to everybody. Mods have shut down threads before that had factual basis for bashing because it was a flamefest. I will not tolerate a flaming/bashing of Ampeg based on pure rumor. That's part of my job as a mod. If you don't like the way I do it, contact Paul and tell him so. He has the ultimate authority and can remove me as a mod if he wishes.
Now, if anyone wants to question me again in a public forum, don't. Read the rules and you will see it is not allowed. If you want to still question me, do it via PM. Have a nice day.
As Kelly explained, flaming does nothing but breed contempt for the products and individuals and tends to sour the forum. I would hate to have insightful comments and information stifled because of ignorant or flat out wrong information. I really like this community and even thought I only know a fraction of the members, they're all great people.
Now that that's cleared up , I would like to hear more about the inner workings of the new Ampeg and where it's going simply because I am sort of an Ampeg geek. Maybe if I had thrown in a couple smilies too the whole "disrespection" issue would have been avoided... but, if you had put them I would have as well. I was just keeping up with your attitude, in a lighthearted way - whether that was visible or not. Actually I just thought it was funny, and I wasn't any more rude than you. Anyway...

I think I have given sufficient info to Kelly to satisfy him that I am not tossing BS into the fan.....
Suffice it to say, I thought it was public knowlege by now, although I looked on the corporate site and didn't see an actual announcement there. I have seen a memo, and it was announced here quite a while ago that the plant was in fact closing.
I have not been told it is any sort of secret that the US production is ceasing.
It can't really BE a secret, since it has been written about in publicly distributed newspapers. There was a story in the newspaper that covers Yellville Arkansas, where the plant has been since the early 1990s. In that paper it was stated that production was moving offshore (as opposed to the plant moving elsewhere in the US). I have a copy.
It has also been discussed about 12 pages worth on TB already............
So........... a secret it is not. Since it is a published fact, there should be no problem with correcting mis-information about the matter.
No bashing intended. Obviously not, since I have something of a vested interest in the continuing popularity of the brand......and I always like to have my designs appreciated.
BTW, as far as I know, none of the offshore-built Ampeg units have come in yet, if that is of interest.

Jerrold, here and in front of all, I apoligize. I was not implying that you were bashing in any way but I can see how I caused it to sound like that. Poor choice of words on my part. Also, I did not seperate my direct comment to you from the general comment meant to those that only seek to come in and bash Ampeg. Once again, my apoligies to you Jerrold.

Interesting comment from seamonkey, and I would have to agree viz. the import car analogy. I grew-up buying American then in the 80's switched to Japanese built/designs and never looked back. Some people even prefer both Japanese designed/built vehicles due to the 'monday/friday' stigma associated with US assembly workers QC deficiences. To that end, maybe we are getting the best of both worlds, pardon the pun: American designed; overseas built/assembled.

Well here is something I dont think anyone asked.
Does Loud have its own production facilty overseas or is production getting farmed out to a 3rd party? That would be my only concern for QC.
As long as Ampeg QC solid, it doesn't bother me where the amps are built. But I'm sure the good people of Yellville, AK are pretty disapointed.
So far Loud has made some good changes as far as I can see... Cabs are now built of Birch & the release of the SVT-VR... both of which people were asking for for YEARS. Of course my Artist rep doesnt get back to me anymore, so the buyout unfortunately hasn't helped me in the slightest.

I just got off the phone with somebody from Ampeg and Loud does not have it's own facilities overseas, it's going to be contracted out, but he did say that they were going to have quality control as far as having a "golden sample" as he put it of each product that the new ones would have to match in build and quality. He also said that there was going to be a lot of testing on all the units that they'll produce. Who knows.
To answer why the other Ampeg/Vietnam/moving threads were closed...
The reason I closed down the other threads was due to the fact that no new, real info was coming forth and the only thing going on in those threads was flaming between members and a bunch of rumor/speculation. It had nothing to due with "getting to close to the bone" as a member has mentioned.
This thread is different in the fact that Jerrold has brought forth inside news. Others are sharing the conversations they have had with various people within Ampeg. The biggest difference is the lack of flaming between members (not counting the problem I caused) and that is the single biggest reason this thread lives. It will stay open as long as it stays this way.

Awesome. I, too am interesed in new, accurate information on Ampeg since I'll soon be in the market for an SVT II Pro or non Pro.

I too am interested in the development of this thread as I am an Ampeg user (6x10 cabinet) and on the market for a new head. I have been put off by Ampeg heads recently as a matter of personal taste but you never know, manufacturing moving overseas might actually result in positive changes, instead of the negative people are speculating?
