Ampeg PF 350/500 Part VII

Tried it with just the bass and amp, and the bass thru a reverb + OD. Will do more experiments when I get home.
Maybe back off the treble a little.
It's more there over the headphones than over speakers.

Just got a 350 from Ampeg refurbished off Ebay. I put in a low "Make offer" bid and was surprised it was accepted.
The 350 sounds great through my Acme B2. Waiting to gig it for a set through my Berg AE212 at the next gig.

Not sure with the 350 - haven't tried it yet, but when using my Kustom KBX500 or Walkabout is does, but I usually have PA support if I use that cabinet. It's plenty loud stand alone though. Normally I'm using the Berg AE212 on the regular gig.
The Ampeg Micro CL is capable of playing backing tracks while playing the amp thru speakers.
So if that feature is important to you, ColdEye, than the Micro CL could be the solution.
I am really liking the crap out of the 350. I tried a new pigtonix analog booster pedal in front of it and also thru the effects loop. The pig introduced a fair amount of hiss and hum when in front of the 350, less hiss and no hum through the effects loop. On both fronts it also slightly changed the EQ adding noticeable highs that were pretty easily dialed out with a combination of the 350's treble control and the tone control on my RS Guitarworks P bass.
Any danger to the head in boosting the signal in this way? Was just thinking about headroom.

I have a gig tonight and after a discussion with my sound guy, I am going to run XLR out of the back of my PF500 instead of the SCR-DI on my board. I usually run from the SCR-DI to FOH and send a bypassed signal to my PF500 for awesome stage volume. After adding a new bass with an active preamp to my arsenal, I get the feeling that my tone in the PF500 is better than when through the SCR-DI. BUT I have to decide whether or not to engage the pre or post EQ XLR setting on the head. What are your thoughts on this? Will sending pre EQ signal send a non-Ampeg tone that defeats the purpose of owning this awesome product. I will also occasionally be using some of the effects pedals in my signature block (chorus, compression, and slight overdrive). I guess I can also just run the SCR-DI's affected signal into the front of my amp and still have the Ampeg tone pass though the XLR of the head. Just curious how folks use the PF500 XLR switches. I also plan to use the -40db pad.
I always run post when I use my PF-800 for the DI. Doesn't happen often, and I have to keep my hands off the knobs to keep from sending the sound techs into a panic, but I like the post signal better. And I never use the -15db on the front even when using an active bass but I do use the -40db pad on the back, otherwise the signal will be super hot.
Thanks Jimmy. Sound checks are complete. I ended up SCR-DI with EQ on into the front of PF500. Amp DI is set to PRE. Had to boost 800 Hz to about 3 o'clock to cut through two guitars and drums for stage volume, although I may go back and try it at 450 Hz. Our sound guy is Greg Allman's sound guy. He seemed happy with it. He knows what I we want to sound like so I trust him in FOH. I did use -40db pad, and I agree that the -15db up front is not neccessay for my one active bass. Gain set at 1 o'clock seems to work great. Have a great weekend Jimmy and all.
Does anyone know where to buy the latches for the pf cabs. I was rolling my cabs to the stage yesterday and hit a small crack and over they went. Luckily my pf800 head was still inside the cab and didn't seem like it was bothered by the fall but the latches took a pretty good lick. Some are just scratched but a couple are bent pretty good. If they are cheap enough and easy to get I'll just replace them and not worry about bending them back into shape.
Check www.fliptops.net . They usually have parts like that. If not, you might find it in the Portaflex wiki on Talkbass. But It's a store bought part. I can't remember who makes it but it shouldn't be hard to get.
So, I just bought the typical PF-500, 210 "stack" and was messing around with the headphone/Aux in this morning. Isn't the headphone jack supposed to mute cab? I was wailing away on the thing and discovered that I was blasting the household (when I took headphones off for something) via the cabinet. I then disconnected the cab from the amp and got bass thru the headphones but it was not all that clear (could be the headphones) although the aux in was clear enough.
Anyway, I like it other than that little thing (which may be by deisgn). Don't tell the Rumble crowd but I took a Rumble 500 combo back and exchanged it for the PF-500 and the 210HE
