Ampeg PF 500

I had an early PF-500 that I sold once the PF-800 came out since I just wanted the horses that existed. I never had an issue with my PF-500 and truthfully I thought it sounded a bit warmer. It may have been that I hit the sweet spot at playing volumes with it and the PF-800 just has more to go to get there. When I used the PF-500 for outdoor gigs in a metal band it was right at its limit. When I used the 800 for similar situations that was never the case.

But what is the reason for a 1/4 + speakon? Usually there are two of same type
Both the 1/4" and the speakon are interchangeable when connecting a single cab or daisy chaining cabs, and they are parallel when used together. There might be a case where someone would like to connect 2 cabs, with both having these 2 types of connectors, but he/she only has one cable with speakon connectors and another one with 1/4". Thus, he/she could use speakon + 1/4" of the amp.

Hi...Im about to buy a Pf500...I ve read lots of posts about issues for this head. Have they been fixed in the recent ones? Shall I go for it or I better look for a 800? (i don't need that power though)
Junk....complete junk. I bought one (paired it with a PF210 cabinet); within (6) months, the amp was in "fault" mode. The amp was repaired under warranty...worked fine for about a year, then the same thing happened - "fault" mode. Called Ampeg, and they reluctantly repaired it again. Worked fine for another year or so. This past weekend, it died as we were sound checking....thank God I had some time before the show to run home and grab a backup head....calling Ampeg this coming Monday to see if they'll do anything, hopefully they will. This will be the fourth board installed in the amp in about (3) years....too bad, too....I really dig the tone!
